The Natural World

Soft neutrals, worn and faded browns, beige....a touch of green...
....and information....interesting facts and endless knowledge about our natural world....

Like so many of us I have a fascination with it all....the complexity of nature....the incomparable beauty of the natural world ....it seems we are never satisfied with our quest for information and have so many books stacked about our camp....at the ready for us or any visitor to delve in and discover some new fact about a bird we saw or the flowers along the trail on a recent hike... we keep maps of the Adirondacks and history books of the area easily accessible....It is here, in these mountains that we may have the time to read and follow these interests....

Nests, feathers, mushrooms, seashells, fossils, flowers and fauna.....perhaps it seems like a never ending science class.....

But somehow.....having all these books about....bringing the outside in...all serve to create a sense of connection to our world and beyond...

Lovely tiles....soft muted tones....

And then there is this attraction to the mundane..the useful...the little things that serve us in our everyday life...

There are many of us who recognize and enjoy the simple beauty of the humble everyday object...

A few found vintage rosaries....well worn meaningful treasures from someone's past...encouraging thoughts on my own personal and spiritual quest....

And here....some green vintage tags from Fowler's.....a dry goods store that dates back to the 1800's in the Adirondack town of Glens Falls, NY......a different time, a different place...

History, nature....our spiritual selves....there is so much to discover....

It's all beautiful! I especially love the rosaries - I love old rosaries and have collected quite a few - I always wonder who they belonged to.

Hi Laura, I saw a magazine pic that had a girl with several rosaries wrapped around her wrist as a bracelet. It was really cute.

Is anything prettier than a string of old white buttons? Is Fowler's still open?

I just love every pisture. The soft and muted tones of nature. Beautiful. I love the old buttons and the rosaries. I have a bit of a thing for crosses. Have a look at my post today. I think that it's the bit of Gothic that I have in me !! XXXX

I think we all have the same fascination with the past--we wonder who the people were, what they were like--who had the things we now treasure!

to discover within is to keep your eyes closed and breathe in the outdoor air.........

I too am constantly amazed at how inspiring nature can be, and how our prayer life can be intertwined so easily.......to become one in the same.....

absolutely one of my favorite posts thus far.

There's nothing I enjoy more then browsing thru an old botanical book. I'm always surprised how little things have changed in principle.
I so look forward to coming up to visit this Fall.

Beautiful. I have been sorting nature books over the last two days - my sons have grown out of some of the youngest books we have and I'm trying to get the books down to a quantity where the boys can actually see, sort through, and refer to them! I did find one wonderful vintage book about the seaside with such lovely watercolour paintings in it - I think I will post about it soon.
