Saturday Morning Church Sale

This morning I was on my way out the door to a church sale I had seen advertised all week and my husband called out, "wait I'll go with you"......now normally Rob does not "do" sales which is fine with me because if I have heard it once...I have heard it a thousand times over our 35 year marriage...."what are you going to do with that?" or "do we really need that?" But, wait I did and within a few minutes we were on our way......

We arrived just before 9 a.m. and there was a line of anxious customers at the door......Once inside...the first thing I noticed was the sign that said "everything on these tables is either 50 cents OR $1.00".....my heart started to beat real fast.....I'm a dollar kind of gal. So guess what? All these flower frogs were only 25 cents each with one thrown in for free.....that was a bargain at the bargain table! The cigar tin is from Holland (I love the color and graphics).....

The book room was filled with books.....25 cents for soft cover and 50 cents for hard cover.....The book above was 50 cents.......it has absolutely beautiful pictures......(I filled a box .....got some great titles and some great colors....I do collect books for their colors too). This was the room where Rob spent a lot of time... books, old tapes and albums.....

I just love this 3 tiered blue and white stand.....

4 Danish oval dishes, a white McCoy vase and a white crock.......all for $3.00

Fountain pen on marble base.....50 cents

I liked the gray background.....go figure....25 cents......

Now here is where it started to really get good......

Glass door knobs.....candelabra with some crystals and.....a full length stained glass window! Rob actually pointed it out to me. I couldn't believe it was there..... a piece of paper taped to it read "From the old Archer Methodist Church, November 25, 1893".... It was beautiful.......Rob seemed willing....a pane was cracked but nothing too serious....the price was reasonable and when I asked if they would take less....the minister reduced it by half! As I was writing out the check, the old fellow in charge of the cash box said....."you know, there is another door downstairs....one that has more color in it....would you like to see it? Maybe you would like that one better." Would I like to see it?....sure!.......Downstairs we went.....dirty, dusty....with stuff piled up in front of it.......

We came home with both doors.....and the Mother Mary as well.

Now.....if Rob had not been with me I might have missed seeing the first door, or might have been reluctant to try to bring something this size home (it's hard to hide a door). But he did come with me, he did spot the door first, he was willing to pay for both and he carried them out and loaded them in the car! All without a complaint! For that, he was rewarded with a hot dog on the church lawn! What a fun Saturday morning church sale!

Saturday Morning Antiques

I stopped in at a local Antique show this morning and found a few things......
Won't my lilacs look pretty in this old tin? Another month before they bloom...

These old wooden red roses were at a booth called pocka booka.....
I will do a separate post on their creative designs made from vintage fabrics.

Four little red books in their original box....and some red buttons..

Vintage clown with a sweet face made from yo yo quilt pieces...
.........Also found at the pocka booka booth.

More buttons....

glass prisms....

One other noteworthy booth at the show was called Three Vintage Babes....
Two lovely ladies, Patricia and Lorraine had vintage costume jewelry and accessories....I took some pictures of the most wonderful hats and will show them soon......stay tuned!
