Little Bits of Blue Enamelware

My Bouckville flea finds were many.
But, I am probably most delighted with these little bits of  blue enamelware.
So dear.
So blue.
Pure charm.

I just can't help myself!
:)

Family is coming and going.
We actually made a list of all the days this week and how many would be here for dinner each night.
One night 9...then 7....then 9 again...then 4....then 8.
It gets confusing but...
...it's all good! :)

It's been quite a summer...
...long with many beautiful days...
...and at the same time it seems to have flown by.

The mountain air is cool now...temperature in the 40's this morning.
It warms up quickly though...
... yesterday Mr. Flea and I took a long early morning kayak ride.
Photos of osprey, loons, herons and ducks to follow soon.

Hope you are all well.
Thank you for your comments and emails!

Off to the shop and then train station...
Comings and goings...
:)

The Bouckville Adventure Begins!

Just so excited...
The Flea Market gods were smiling down on us
as we were able to book a room at a local B & B.
Sister Lynn is about to be indoctrinated...
by total immersion in junking heaven...
...for 3 whole days!

Looking forward to meeting up with fun blogging friends...
...will share all about it and take tons of pics!

...take care, Laura :)

Recent Junking Finds

Hello friends...
Today I have been attempting to create my
 52 FLEA Facebook page
which is connected to my regular personal  FB page.
I have no idea what I am doing.

Ruth from The Beautiful Life
was gracious enough to guide me a bit...
...but, I am a slow learner and a bit timid in these techie things.
( I wonder how I managed for so long in the corporate world !)
I really like junking, styling, blogging and photography much better!

Anyway...
I am hoping that when I publish this little post
that it will appear on my 52 FLEA Facebook page.

Which is here:

So, really...this is a test!
:)
If you have time and you visit there...
...please let me know of any suggestions you may have for me.
And if you want to...you can like me...
(gee...that sounds pitiful).
But what's even more pitiful is... right now it shows that I only have one friend...
...and that is my sweet 19 year old nephew Joe.
He loves his Aunt Laura.
Make no mistake...Joe's not pitiful...
..he's totally awesome...and brilliant and tall and handsome too! :)
But...one friend?
so sad.

And the other thing I have been working on
is my Etsy shop and my Blog shop.
They are all set up and ready to go.
Why have I not opened them, you may ask?
I have no idea.
I am not sure exactly why I am hanging back.
Is it because I am afraid you won't like my junk?
Is it because I am having trouble letting go of my junk?
Am I afraid of commitment?

I just don't know.
I guess I need shop therapy....
or shock therapy.
I used to use shopping as therapy...but that's not the same thing.

Anyway....just so you know where my head is at!
All the little things pictured here
were picked up at last week's flea market.

So that's my story for today.
What's yours?
:)

Summer Fades Into Autumn

The temperatures here at the lake have fallen...
there were frost warnings last night.

Dad and I wore gloves and warm coats
as we took our walk early this morning.
It is yard sale weekend here in our tiny Adirondack town.
You know what they say about the early bird!
:)

We took a long drive north and were treated to
clear skies and beautiful views of the mountains.
The leaves are starting to turn
and bits of gold and red shone in the sun.

It is much quieter these days at the lake.
I am feeling so grateful for the peacefulness, the beauty around us,
and time to appreciate it all with my Dad.

Hoping to get a few projects done tomorrow...
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Yard Sale Finds

Early yesterday morning, my Dad and I slipped out of the house
and went to the big yard sale down the street
while sister Lynn stayed with Mom.

It was really fun to share this time with Dad and it was beautiful...
...warm and sunny here in Florida.
I found this pretty little pin with the initials IHP.

I don't know if the pin once belonged to
 Miss Irma Henrietta Parker or
Ingrid Helga Pierce or Ilsa Hanna Pepper...
 or perhaps Imogen Heap Peabody.

But I like to think the initials stand for...
In His Presence.
And so I bought the little pin for $1.00

I also found these 3 crystal strands... all 3 for 50 cents.

I loved the graphics on the cover of this book of violin music.
As indicated on the bottom...it cost $1.00 back in 1902...
...and that is exactly what I paid for it yesterday.

And just look at this old ironstone platter from the late 1800's...
It was a steal at $3.00!

This rusty, old, heavy machinist tool box
was the very first thing we saw.
My Dad might have wondered why I was bothering to look at it...
but even he did not flinch when I said I would take it...
 ...for the one dollar price!
The bottom drawer is my favorite...
...skinny with cool compartments.
I can't wait to clean it up a bit.

The old reader is not in great condition
so I won't mind taking it apart for an art project or two.
It has some great illustrations and fun words.

An old green Allspice tin.

An old Jiffy Kodak camera...
to set on the shelf with my other vintage cameras.

Just in case you were wondering about the old photo...
...that is my grandmother..
...my Mother's Mother...Hazel Laura.
Front and center.
(The one with the X on it that says Me!)
Do you know that Nana and I went to the same college?
She was quite a girl...smart, headstrong and full of fun.
Just like my Mom!

Here are the little, child sized Swedish enamelware cups
after I cleaned them all up.

So charming!
First, I found the little red and white enamel dishes
and now these blue and white cups.
Oh what a lucky girl I am.
:)

So that's all for today.
Hope you had a great weekend!

$4 Worth of Little Red and White Flea Finds

While down south I managed to get to a few fleas
and a couple of thrift stores.
(Mr. Flea was a willing partner as he was looking for a bicycle...)

One afternoon I spent an hour and $4.00 poking around.

This sweet pink rose sprigged doll blouse was 50 cents...
...the red and white clothespin bag it is lying on was one dollar.

Two dollars for the lot of red and white vintage
 child's enamelware dishes.

I had to dig for them in an old toy chest
filled with crusty old junk that even I didn't want.

The last piece I found was the lid to the little coffeepot.
I held it up in glee ...it felt like I hit the jackpot!
Mr. Flea just looked at me...convinced he married a crackpot.

...and one lonely* little* hand knit*creamy white* mitten
...for another 50 cents.

Four dollars for all these red and white flea finds.
Four dollars worth of fun.
:)

Don't ask what I will do will them...
I have no idea...yet.

So far today I have eaten 3 chocolate cupcakes
 with plastic footballs on top.
(Well, I didn't eat the footballs).

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!
:)

Old Time Favorites

The pretty pink peony blooming in our back yard...

I was so excited when I sat down with my new issue of Jeanne d'Arc Living magazine...
Two of my favorite things....peonies and enamelware are included in this issue.

I have been collecting vintage enamelware for decades!
In fact, if you have been following along for a while...
...you would know that I have been collecting a lot of things for a long time...

...poor Mr. Flea.

In any case, it has been gratifying to see some of my favorite old treasures recently become popular decorative items...
I don't even have to leave my home or go shopping anywhere other than my attic, shed or basement to get the look!
...which is good given my employment status at the moment!

Another thing I noticed with this issue of JDL is that there is a little more color...
...especially blue!

All the light streaming in and the pale blue cupboard in this picture....mmm... so pretty!

...and then this photo with the touches of red...
...it is just so cheerful!

...lastly...this totally feminine, ethereal looking pillow on top of the rough linen upholstered chair.
LOVE it!

Moving on to a quick stop at Anthropologie the other day....
...aren't these pocket pillows adorned with buttons charming?

This was a linen covered jewelry display board with more pockets...
...too cute!

...and finally...
a question for you...

Is yellow-ware ever going to come back in?
I have a huge collection packed away and just recently I pulled a few little pieces out...

...I think I'm liking it again!

Happy Memorial Day Weekend

Hope that you are having a good weekend with family and friends...

Remembering those who lost their lives for their country...

...spending a little time at yard sales and the flea market...

... a little time outdoors in the garden...

...some time just relaxing ...

...and, of course... eating good summer foods!

:)
