Autumn in the Adirondacks

September and October were beautiful in the Adirondacks.
Here are a few photos that show just a bit of the beauty
 of our mountains and lake.

It is always sad when we close up "camp" for the season.
But things changed quickly up north
and they have already had their first snowfall!

Things have changed here at home too.
Life has it's seasons.
These days we are spending time loving and caring
for the oldest members of our family.
It is such a privilege.

So grateful for family, friends and faith.

Hope You are enjoying the season!

Here Comes The Sun

Thank you all so much for your lovely and kind words
 on the previous post.

The sun has made some brief appearances in the last few days...
including a spectacular sunrise the other morning.

As we ready the place for the winter...
...it is hard not to feel a bit sad
that we won't be back for so many months...

but...it truly was a gorgeous spring, summer and fall
this year...and...
...we know how lucky we are to be able to spend time
in this beautiful area with family and friends.

The Adirondack Park surely is a little slice of heaven on earth!

Hope you are enjoying some lovely autumn weather too!

I will be sharing some fun vintage finds
 once settled back home...
 ...stay tuned!

Happy Sunday!
:)

Adirondack Autumn

It is quiet here at the lake this time of year.
Everyone has closed their summer homes, cabins, cottages
 and camps for the winter.

Very soon...we will too.

The rain has kept us indoors all week.
Whenever there is a break in the steady drizzle...
I dash outside with my camera to try to capture the beauty
of the changing colors in the mountains.

Our time spent here this past week has not been as we expected.
...not as many walks, no yard sales or flea markets.
No hikes or kayak trips or golf.

No flaming colors of autumn foliage lit by the sun.
No sun.
No family.
Only Mr. Flea and me.

Instead... it has been a softer, quieter time.

A time of thoughtful reflection.

...a time to slow down...
...and appreciate the more subtle beauty
that this persistent cloud cover has provided.

Mr. Flea wondered if it kept raining all week...
...would we drive each other crazy?

We haven't.

Not yet.
:)

Our rainy week alone at the lake has provided opportunity
for lots of reading, old movies snuggled under wool blankets,
listening to music, cooking and eating
 together.
:)

...and also time to think.

...and plan...

...and pray.

Perhaps it's the time of year, the change of seasons...
the loss of my Mom...still so hard to believe...
the fact that my children are grown with lives of their own...

...that has made me pause to think about life...
...and what lies ahead.

...perhaps it's just the rain quieting down my mind.
....all in a good way...

...to help me appreciate all that I have been given.

A glimmer of understanding....
...a hope...
...a momentary release of feeling the need to try so hard...

It is not all up to me.

Learning to trust...
...to let it be...

Choosing to love...
...to just be in the moment.

Hope your week is going well.
Thanks for stopping by!

What am I grateful for today?
God's beautiful handiwork
and opportunities to listen to the quiet voice inside.

Antiquing in the Adirondacks

Last week when Dad and I took our drive we stopped
at this small but interesting antique shop in Long Lake.

Sweet corn!
Sweet vintage scale!

We drove through Indian Lake where there were vendors
set up with rustic mountain antiques and a farmer's market.

Bought a few of these beauties...
I will sorely miss this season's delicious home grown tomatoes...

Beautiful grain sack...

Lots of antlers...
I have a number of these at the camp...collected over the years.

Loved this old sign for sale...
Tons of snow in these mountains!

 Beautiful wood decoys...

Lovely silver and mother of pearl fruit knives...

Cool vintage bicycle...

 Lumberjack boots!

Marine antiques on exhibit in the mountains?
You just never know what you will find!

And...I had to leave you with just a few pictures of the lake...
so beautiful and peaceful this time of year.

Early morning is the best time of day...

Time for reflection, meditation and prayer.

Wishing you a peaceful and calm day.

Enjoy each moment!
:)
