Woman's Day...Oh What a Day!

My mother in law continues to clean out and yesterday she brought me two magazines...
...the first is a 1914 Vogue...
...it's fabulous and I will share it in a later post.

I was particularly delighted with the Woman's Day pictured above as it is a 1952 edition!

Now, let me tell you about my day.

First of all, I am in Buffalo at Dan's law school apartment...
...he's moving out and onward as he has graduated and, as of yesterday...
finished taking the BAR.
(Thank you all for your prayers...
...we have to wait until November to see if you prayed hard enough... :) wink, wink).

Anyway...I made the 7 hour drive today...arrived around 4:30 p.m. and immediately began doing laundry and cleaning three years worth of bachelor pad grime...
(a privilege and pleasure)

Dan has gone out to celebrate with his law school friends.
Good for them! They have worked so hard and deserve to relax a bit.
Although their fun is tinged with a bit of sadness as they are going off in different directions and will miss each other.

Back to Woman's Day...
When I was a very young girl my Nana had a washing machine like the one above....
I can remember pulling the clothes through the wringer and then helping her hang the clothes on the line outside behind the farmhouse. That's a good memory! :)

I haven't read the above article yet..."How To Be A Girl".
I don't know as if I need to read it...
I think I've got that down pretty good by now.

I enjoyed the advertising and the old graphics ...
...some of the products we still use today....RIT for one!

OK... he left me here with absolutely no food in the apartment...
I'm hungry!

Now, I haven't read this article yet either...
"I Live With My Grown-Up Children"...
But I am about to.

Dan is temporarily moving back home as he has secured a job in our area.
A job, as we all know, is a very good thing...
...especially when there are student loans to be paid back.

Mr. Flea is excited to have Dan back in the area and available to hang out with...
...he is not so excited to be giving up his Empty Nest.

Dan is excited to have a job...
...not so excited to have to move back in with his parents temporarily.

We will work it out!

I am happy to have both my boys with me! :)

These were the fashions back in the day...
...It is hard to imagine but in 1952 my Mom was 25.
She had a beautiful figure and could easily have worn these fashions...

Well, after this weekend of cleaning and packing and moving...
I hope Avon calls on me...
I will surely need it!

...or perhaps I will need this!
:)

Once again, thank you for all your kind comments and good wishes for my family.

And thank you for all your suggestions on what to do with my vintage postage stamps.
Do you really think one of them could be valuable?
...gee...I could help Dan pay off his loans...or buy Kate an apartment in Manhattan...
...or maybe Mr. Flea wants a new kayak...

...snap out of it Laura!
...remember your "Symphony"...To live content with small means...etc. etc.

Fun to daydream once in a while! :)

Only 2 days left to enter the 52 FLEA 500th Post Give-Back!

If you would like a chance to win click HERE to leave a comment!

Oops...have to run down to the laundry room before someone gets the dryer before me!
:)

I just posted a blog, Vintage Goes to College, as I am preparing to send my oldest off to college in a month and you are moving your son back home. It's reassuring that we remain mothers forever. I love the Women's Day pictures. I was born in 1952.

What a fun post! Families should stick together and watch out for one another, and that's just what you're doing! Best of luck to your sweet son and passing that Bar exam....my dh's a Lawyer..

I heart your MIL. What a peach! You get wonderful little gifts from her that make me sigh!

Those old magazines are such fun. We have a box of old fashion magazines...but they smell a little moldy. I have tried putting them in the sun, and putting Febreeze between them. Can't get anything to work ;-(

Hugs.

You must be so proud! My son has been with me in Orlando for 3 weeks and leaves Saturday for DC. to do years of intelligence studies for his bachelors. Mine is leaving and yours is coming home. Lord, stock up the frig, get the washer going and be prepared for those stinky boy clothes. Their rooms smell. Oh, and then worry when they aren't home. Out of site out of mind! I envy you, I wish mine was coming.

Well, first of all that magazine is WONDERFUL! I love old magazines and buy them at estate sales for the graphics:) I think you are fortunate to be able to help your Son and he is fortunate to have you. There is good and bad news about him moving home. The good news is he will be there for a while and the bad news is you will miss him when he leaves again!

Enjoy your day my friend! HUGS!

Wow! I can relate to your post! We moved my son back home from college this week. He will live at our home for a week and then move back to college to a different apartment with a different roommate. One lease ended before the new one was ready. Lots of hauling but in the long run, will be worth it. I've had tons of laundry and now I'm off to steam clean a sofa. Whew! What we do for our children. But we LOVE every minute of it.

Fun family times! Our girls have been in and out of our 'empty nest'; but now are married and our nest is empty. Great nostalgia. Those old articles are so fun to read, but sad how much the world has changed.
Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations to your son and to you. That's a huge accomplishment. I've had a tough week so I'm just catching up on blogs now. I love this post with the old magazines. Great pictures and illustrations. The ads are great fun to look at. We still use Betty Crocker and now I go to the antique shop that is on the Betty Crocker estate here in southern California. Thanks for sharing.

Sounds like you are having fun even though it's a lot of work....
My son is only five houses away, my daughter is three hours....but I am just happy that they are not a country away!!
I love to look at the old magazines....and my Mom could wear any of those fashions, even after ten children.....maybe cause there was so much work to do.....the good old days!
Hugs,
Margaret B

Oh Laura I'm so out of touch with blogging! It has been wonderful reading your posts again. This one in particular was a crack up! My nana had one of those washing machines too. Well, it is storming here and I still have the ceiling to paint in the dining room so we get a bit more light in the house on a dark day ... Thinking of you as ever.
