Tied Up

We have been tied up working on the kitchen up here at the lake.
I was soooo naive about the time it would take!

Today was a rainy day...
...really the first day all summer that it rained most of the day.

So we read books, took naps and ate BBQ ribs!

Tomorrow...Mr. Flea and I are going to attempt to paint
the dark green Formica on the kitchen counters
a pewter color with Rustoleum's special counter top paint.

Dad will be making a shelf for over the kitchen sink
and one for over the refrigerator.

It's looking pretty darn good so far!

Will show you some pictures once we are done.

Looking forward to Madison Bouckville next week....

Thanks for all your comments...it's always so nice to hear from you!
Hope all is well !

Morning Walk

My Dad and I have been walking each morning.
These pictures are from last week
while my sister Mary Beth was here.
Our walk took us to the small park at the end of the lake.

Thanks for coming along with us!
Hope the week ahead brings all beautiful mornings to you!
:)

Endless Summer

Queen Anne's Lace abounds in upstate New York.
This delicate wildflower, along with beautiful blue chicory
grows along the roads and in every field.

...another one of August's simple yet glorious gifts.

People are beginning to speak about back to school ...
That troubles me.
I am not ready for summer to end...
...and you know what?

I had a revelation this afternoon.

Summer is not going to end anytime soon for me.

Because...well, I'm not going back to school this fall.
And...finally...my kids are not either!

So...no more talk about the fading away of summer days!
Mr. Flea and I have reached the time of life
where summer time truly seems endless!
Another gift.

And now, for all you Moms who are getting anxious
and already a bit frazzled at the prospect of back to school...

...take a breath.
Your gift is having your children with you...
...at this very moment in time.
Soon enough they will be grown and off on their own.

It happens when you're not looking.
It happens fast.

Hope you are enjoying your summer...
...even if you're already thinking back to school thoughts!

:)
gee, I'm so philosophical today!

Flea Finds

In between painting, visiting with my sister, pricing vintage goods
and trips to my little booth...
I have had a chance to flea a little.

I found this tall zinc farm item at The Red Barn.
See that little spout and the glass insert?
I love the wooden carrying handle.
It is perfect for holding a variety of things around here...
...maps, a collection of yardsticks, umbrellas, birch branches, etc.
I don't know what it was originally used for...
...I'm guessing milk or cream...
Do you know?

Also found...
Irresistible old photographs of babies and little girls...
When is it too many vintage photos?
(Never you mind, Mr. Flea)

This old shield shaped thing is covered in old brown velvet...
Was it a key holder or medal or ribbon display
 from a Lodge or Club?
I tried it out with some of my favorite silver necklaces.

And lastly, I found this huge spool of lace at the thrift store
and this wee little doggie tape measure at Schoolhouse Treasures.

Actually, there was lots more...
...but there's always next time!

Hope you are having a good week!

Black Drawers

Paula and I found these black drawers
at Madison Bouckville two years ago.
She made several charming and unique shadow boxes
with her half of the take.

I intended (as usual) to do the same.
Instead I have just hoarded  kept mine.
I keep other things I hoard collect in them.
...and then I stack them.
I like them.

I wonder what I will find this year at MB?
:)
