Rainy Day Treasure

There was more to be found in addition to the cigar box treasures at this rainy weekend sale...

I love this pair of opera glasses...bought for a fraction of their value...

Always attracted to these Cornishware bowls...I had to bring them home with me...

Great books at only fifty cents a piece...

I was happy to find some gardening titles for my collection...

Two old brass keys, a pair of change purses and a black Victorian bow...

A bit of pretty blue bling... earrings for 25 cents...

Another bargain book which is as interesting on the inside as the cover appears...

Crochet hooks and thread in brilliant blues and green...

Despite the rain...it was a successful treasure hunting weekend...
I was able to find some bargains, catch up and visit with my girlfriend and bring home a few goodies to add to my collections and art supplies...
Thanks for coming along!

3 Cigar Boxes

I purchased 3 cigar boxes this weekend at the sale in Warrensburg.....
The first was a box full of unsorted buttons for $1.00.....
I still haven't had a chance to sit and sort through them but have spied a few interesting items already!

The next two cigar boxes were found together and at the table in front of the local Catholic church....
They were mixed in with pots and pans and all sorts of donated items from the parishioners...
Inside were these two lovely pictures and an amazing array of...

religious metals, crosses and rosary beads...

I was pretty excited.....there are over 100 items in these 2 cigar boxes!

Tomorrow, I will show you the rest of my finds.....
Despite the rain and fog....I came away with some treasure...at least my kind of treasure!
Have a restful night!

Flea Market in the Rain

It is peak leaf peeping season in the Adirondacks....the mountains are full of forests of golds and reds. This weekend, in my travels to the Warrensburg sale, I had hoped to take and be able to show you lots of beautiful autumn pictures...

Unfortunately, it rained the entire weekend and the fog and clouds obscured nature's beauty...

Our dock....looking out over the lake to the mountains beyond....(use your imagination!)

Maybe next weekend, when we drive north one last time to close our place up for the winter...
Maybe then the sun will shine?

Anyway, the rain did not keep Joanna and I from driving to Warrensburg and traipsing all over the town with our slickers on...

There was definitely more junk (and I mean uninteresting, landfill type junk) than treasures this time. Perhaps it was due to the weather and folks not wanting to ruin their wares in all the rain..
There were bargains to be had however and I did score a few....
...Those I will show you in tomorrow's post....
Here are a few shots of small items being sold out of buckets and boxes set out on the wet ground:

This dealer had a ton of crystals....

stoppers...

door knobs...

more crystals...

all sizes...

keys...

letters...

typewriter keys...

butter pats...old marbles...

old type...

sleigh bells...

white ironstone...

and of course, since we are in the Adirondacks...all kinds of snowshoes, back packs and skis...

Despite the weather, we had fun, as two girlfriends with acres of junk to look at will do....there was excitement in the form of a lost gas cap and low tires...
...a huge variety of street food....we avoided the blooming onion and fried dough...but couldn't resist the homemade chocolate chip cookies...

Thanks to all who left comments and information for me on my previous posts on the icons and other religious artifacts....
...wait till you see what I found in two cigar boxes!

Have a good evening!

Last Flea at the Lake

I'm heading to the lake this weekend to meet a girlfriend driving over from Vermont and to go the Warrensburg garage sales and flea markets....
It's an annual affair and fun to trek around hunting for treasures!

The photos here show some of the finds I sent to the winners of my 200th post Give Back in August. These items were all found at the Madison Bouckville show where I shopped as the personal shopper for the winners.....
....so much fun!

So this weekend, I will be shopping for myself.....the Warrensburg event is much smaller but always fun as this little Adirondack town puts out all their junk and we flea marketing, yard saling scavengers happily paw through it all! I'm dressing in layers as the temperature has dropped and bringing my umbrella as rain is expected. On more than one occasion it has snowed this weekend at this sale!
... I hope you all have a great weekend! Happy Hunting!
Take care, Laura

Found at the Church Thrift Store

Two of my favorite thrift stores are affiliated with churches....I found this wooden plaque at one of these stores last week...

This brass object has candle wax drippings in the bottom. I found it at the Methodist church sale up north this summer and it was marked 25 cents....

I grew up in the Methodist church and I never remember seeing something like this there so I think perhaps it may be from the local Catholic church...

It really is quite pretty....in a Jeanne D'Arc Living decorative type of way...

Do you know how and why it was used?
Would you display or use this in your home?

Another religious plaque found at the same church thrift store...

...and a small shrine...
....I am not sure of the origins of these pieces but aren't they beautiful?
