Hearts and Hope

Wikipedia tells us that the heart has long been used as a symbol to refer to the spiritual, emotional, moral and even intellectual core of a human being. As the heart was once widely believed to be the seat of the human mind, the word heart continues to be used poetically to refer to the soul, and stylized depictions of hearts are extremely prevalent symbols representing love...

I am gathering bits and pieces to try to create a little art and some favors for Valentine's day...

Pretty lace doilies, bits of red and pink ribbons and papers...

Looking through my vintage Valentine's Day cards and postcards...

It feels good to be rummaging through my collections...thinking about my friends and family, how much I love them and how fun it is to try to please and delight them...

...and while I do this my husband is in the next room watching TV and ...
...I hear the continuing coverage of the terrible situation in Haiti...

...where people are still holding on to hope...

Hearts and Hope for our friends in Haiti...

I hope that the week ahead brings some good news in the relief effort to those suffering people.
As I go about my comfortable life, keenly aware of my many blessings, I will keep the people of Haiti in my prayers and do what I can to help.

I hope that it is a peaceful and calm week for each of you.
:) Laura

The red bunny pictured above is a creation of the talented Lori Ann Corelis.

Big Hugs and lots of love goes to everyone from my corner of the world. Loved all the vintage valentines, I think that is one of my most favorite times of the year. Florence

Beautiful post Laura, you are so compassionate and kind. I feel so sad for the situation in Haiti, it seems so bleak, I pray for them all but especially the children......

Don't you just love Lori Ann's work? I have a few of her bunnies, I can't always get to the web site for her sales so when I do it feels like I hit the jackpot!!! Her red bunnies and bears are so fabulous. My hope is to someday make beautiful bears like hers, she does inspire me!
Hugs,
Margaret B

Beautiful post! I too have been madly cleaning my house with the news in the background. I am heart broken over all the little ones and really mad about all the News reports over there taking up food and water!! Really I don't get them sometimes. ABC for one has ALL of their people there!? You always have the beset pictures to go with what you are saying!! I knew that bunny was one of Lori's! She is a dear. I have a super sweet pink bear with a huge strawberry. I ADORE it. One of my favorite pieces. Your bunny is spectacular!!

Dearest Laura, once more I get to know one of you wonderful collections - your Valentine's-postcards are fascinating and very pretty! In Austria Valentine's Day has not a really strong tradition (but like Halloween they found out that it could bring money so it is becoming a booming branch of industry) ... nevertheless there are some "core characteristics" of this day which seem to be worth to celebrate it!
Hugs, Traude

Some philosophies still use the heart to represent the mind. I think if we all did this - the world may be a more loving and giving place. And dare I think that many of the world's atrocities would never have occured, if we were in touch with a heart/soul-mind. Something else to hope for.
Your collections are wonderful as always
