May In The Mountains

We opened the house at the lake in the Adirondacks this weekend.

A neighbor's tiny yellow cottage had just enough room for a few more occupants...

The mama robin was busy all weekend trying to keep up with her hungry babies...

The blue and violet lupines were blooming...

The ferns were growing up amidst the twig chairs...

...and our lake welcomed us back for yet another summer season...

How lucky are we?

I hope that you had a wonderful weekend too.
:)

Doesn't that robin has a marvellous taste? We had at least as much water over here last weekend, but here it was pouring out of the sky. It didn't prevent us from visiting "Dordt in stoom" (=my hometown in steam), taking a ride in a steamtream, sailing (?) on a steamboat, riding an antique bus and having lots of fun.

Beautiful, Laura.
Such a lovely retreat for you and your family. It must be great to have such a place to get away to from the rat-race and all of life's demands.
I wish you many happy summer weekends there this year. XXXX

We love the Adirondacks! We stay at High Peaks Resort in downtown Lake Placid in the fall - because...in May and June it's black fly season and I'm horribly allergic to them! How do you keep them away from you? If you're a "regular" up there, are there "tricks of the trade" to keep those nasties from biting?
Your retreat looks totally idyllic! There is something so calming about forests and lakes...
Enjoy!

Great photos!
I threw some lupine seeds out in the garden but they don't seem to be coming up and I think the birds may have feasted on them before they had a chance to germinate...sheesh!

Laura...thank you for visiting and it is so nice to meet you =))
Ahhhh, the Adirondicks. I would love to visit there, and haven't ~ yet! But, maybe next year...as I too will be leaving the world of "county government". God willing.....
We RV, and plan on hitting the road. I hope to add teaching into the mix =) And, btw...Deryn Mentock designed a necklace using an old coin purse. It is fun to rivet a piece of metal onto the leather part and .....
well, that would be a tutorial too!
Love your pictures BTW. They are gorgeous =)))

How lucky you are! Living my dream, that is! If I could, I'd have a cabin on a lake just like this. I love being in the outdoors, paddling on a lake, reading a great book in my lawn chair. MMMMM

You are very lucky. Enjoy every moment and count your blessings! I love lupines, their foilage is so tropical looking, which is a bonus after the flower fades! Have you ever read the story, "Miss Rumphius" by Barbara Clooney? It's a great lupine story I recommend for young and old, even though it is a childrens book. Cindy
