The Glass Display Box

Last year, while hunting at my favorite Connecticut flea

 with a friend, I found this old oak and glass display box.

I brought it up to the lake and asked Dad

 to tighten up a joint which was a little loose on one side.

He's very handy at fixing things

 and has been so good about tackling my many projects!

Next, we will replace the two glass shelves that are missing.

I couldn't wait though...now that it was functional...

 and played with a few vignettes...

  ...then took it outside for an impromptu photo shoot.

I considered painting it white

 but decided to leave it in its original state.

We have had a great weekend here at the lake...

...and enjoyed a beautiful sunset from the boat this evening.

Relaxing By The Lake With Artful Blogging

Every time a new issue of Artful Blogging is about to come out,

 I get excited at the thought of seeing one of my blogger friends featured in an article or the prospect of being introduced to yet another inspiring blogger...

Blooming Blue Hydrangeas

It's been a busy week here at the lake!

Mr. Flea and Dad have been hard at work in the kitchen

(not cooking...re-building and painting!)

Looking forward to spending time with sister Mary Beth

 and our nephew Joe and niece Becca this weekend!

Back To Blue

Well, I wasn't selected as a juror...

...so

...it's back to the blue lake, the blue sky, the blue mountains...

and our blueberry patches!

I can't say I'm not pretty happy about that!

Even though I'm still nursing the mosquito bites covering my legs...

 (the result of last week's berry picking)

...it's worth the itch and I'm ready to pick more!

You see, if we don't pick those plump juicy berries

 just as soon as they are ripe...

...the bears and the birds strip the bushes clean!

What's a few mosquito bites when fresh berries are available?

I know Dad, Uncle Don and Mr. Flea

 will be happy to eat some blueberry pancakes this week!

So...tomorrow I travel back north and of course,

I will stop at my little booth at Schoolhouse Treasures

 and add a few more goodies that I just happened to dig up

 this afternoon while sorting through things.

And...of course, I will stop here and there along the way.

I wonder what I will find this time?

Remember Nana's Cookie Jar?

Stopped in to check on my booth at School House Treasures in Broadalbin on my way back home to report for jury duty.

This old cookie jar caught my eye in Pam's booth.

Such cheery pink flowers and a great vignette!

My Nana had a similar cookie jar and it brings back wonderful memories of her oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies...mmmmm!

Did you grow up with a cookie jar that you eyed high up on a shelf? 

...that you couldn't wait to reach your hand into?

Gone Junking!

I did go junking just a little bit this week...

...can't help myself!

Family has arrived here at the lake so kitchen cabinets are on hold...

Actually they are done...we are just waiting until they "cure" and  the house is empty before we put the hinges and hardware back on.

Keeping Cool

 

Floating on the lake was about the only way to keep cool today.

Even up in these mountains, the thermometer registered

 100 degrees on Dad's back deck.

I don't think I can remember it ever being this hot up here...

but fortunately the forecast is for a bit cooler weather tomorrow.

We are so grateful to be here by the lake.

Thank you for all your kind wishes and comments

 in regards to the loss of our little kitty Starla.

We were overwhelmed and comforted by the out pouring

 of love and support from all our blogging friends.

I hope you are finding a way to keep cool in this summer heat!

Remembering Starla...

Our family is sad this week as we had to say goodbye

 to our beloved Starla.

She was the best kitty ever,

 a special member of our family for the last 12 years

 and we miss her greatly.

:(

I just thought you would want to know.

An Odd Assortment of Flea Finds

I will start with my favorite.

Don't you just love old scales?

Next up....an old crate with paper on all four sides...

this side being in the worst condition.

You will have to take my word for it...

...the other sides had Japanese scenes and birds...

...unfortunately the battery in my camera died.

OK, so now we get a little funky. 

Dad said this canteen holder was from the Korean War.

Would you think me strange if I were to sew a few old doilies

 and bits of trim on it?

Would you laugh at me if I were to wear this

 around my waist while flea~ing?

it's just an idea...

Continuing along...

I found a box full of old aqua colored soda and beer bottles.

Among them was this Pluto Water America's Physic bottle.

I told you it was an odd assortment!

Lots more...but Mr. Flea is due back this evening.

so...I've got to go!

The Winning Number!

 We recently found these old license plates

 stashed in the back of the garage.

 They once belonged to Mr. Flea's grandfather

and are all New Jersey plates from 1920 through 1928.

They were filthy, but after cleaning them up we were surprised to find that some are in pretty good condition despite their age.

Oh!

The Lace Jar

While out sailing on the lake...

...er I mean sale~ing...  

 yard sale~ing with a friend...

I came across this gigantic old glass jar.

It stands 15 inches high and is 10 inches across its widest part.

It was marked $1.00

My kind of bargain.

 When I got it home, I filled it with lace.

All kinds of lace.

A lot of which I got from my friend Evi, the dollmaker.

You may remember, several years ago...

after a lovely luncheon she held...

she had been de-stashing and she shared her piles...

and I mean piles...of lace

 with Paula, Carole, Debbie and I.

Oh did we have fun!

What's left and other lace tid bits of my own

 are now housed in this old jar!

 While going through my laces I also found

 part of what must have been a lace sleeve...maybe.

I slipped it over my French green La Lorraine canning jar

 and it fit perfectly!

A late afternoon dalliance after a full day of painting!

My Dad and I have been working on the kitchen cabinets
 for a week now. I hope I don't wear him out...

I know I'm tired and he's 25 years older.

Anyway, another beautiful day has come to an end.

Tomorrow, the forecast is for rain.

Maybe I will get down to the booth at Schoolhouse Treasures

to add a few new things!
