While out sailing on the lake...
...er I mean sale~ing...
yard sale~ing with a friend...
I came across this gigantic old glass jar.
It stands 15 inches high and is 10 inches across its widest part.
It was marked $1.00
My kind of bargain.
When I got it home, I filled it with lace.
All kinds of lace.
A lot of which I got from my friend Evi, the dollmaker.
You may remember, several years ago...
after a lovely luncheon she held...
she had been de-stashing and she shared her piles...
and I mean piles...of lace
with Paula, Carole, Debbie and I.
Oh did we have fun!
What's left and other lace tid bits of my own
are now housed in this old jar!
While going through my laces I also found
part of what must have been a lace sleeve...maybe.
I slipped it over my French green La Lorraine canning jar
and it fit perfectly!
A late afternoon dalliance after a full day of painting!
My Dad and I have been working on the kitchen cabinets
for a week now. I hope I don't wear him out...
for a week now. I hope I don't wear him out...
I know I'm tired and he's 25 years older.
Anyway, another beautiful day has come to an end.
Tomorrow, the forecast is for rain.
Maybe I will get down to the booth at Schoolhouse Treasures
to add a few new things!
Meanwhile...there is still time to enter the

ReplyDeleteSuper cute jar, made even better with the lace in it. Great idea! I love the lace around the smaller jar too. Lately I've been wrapping vellum around jars like that and putting sand and candles inside.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for the jar - can't believe you bought it for a dollar! :-)

Fabulous jar! And wonderful storage idea, thank you! I always have to dig out the ugly plastic lace bin...nope, never again. And my Mason jars def need lace "sleeves"---adorable. You have such a creative "eye"...

ReplyDeleteDear Laura,
ReplyDeleteI LOVE old lace. I used to collect it, years ago, and once bid at an auction for a bag of lace. It had lace collars, cumerbunds and lots of odd bits. I have some under a glass bell cloche that I found in a junk shop for £2. There's nothing so good as a bargain is there Laura?
Your glass jar is wonderful and looks perfect, filled with vintage lace.
I think that you and your Dad need some time with your feet up. We are having rain at the moment so, Summer seems to be avoiding both of us !! XXXX
Your laces are so beautiful!!! I had the chance to find some new at yesterday's flea market and I love to display them in big jars, just as you do! ;) Despite the rain, have a good day! Alexandra
ReplyDeleteScore! I love the lace around the old jar too.
ReplyDeleteHi Dear Laura
ReplyDeleteWell another fabulous find/bargain by you!!! I love that jar... as I do most things you find.. and the lace collection is lovely also... I had a thing with ribbons for a while but had to offload a lot this year...
Well. have a great week.. and have a bit of down time too!! ciao xxx Julie
How beautiful Laura. The cuff allows the light to filter through its gossamer threads and the effect is lovely. In the evening a small tealight candle would tease the fireflies as the jar's gentle glow would tantalize their curiosity.

Laura, I just adore 52Flea!! The reason: you are so creative and artistic. Every thing you do is stunning; every photo you take is so special and creative! I love it! The lace bits in the grand jar is gorgeous. I could go on and on, but I am looking and enjoying some of your older posts today as well! Egretta
ReplyDeleteLaura that jar is so pretty. I love it filled with your scraps.
ReplyDeleteI have just got to get back up north to spend some time going to yard sales, before the season is over! You find the most terrific treasures on your hunts, Laura. The old jar is fabulous and looks so lovely filled with your laces. Lace - another of my many collections, as well. ;)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I would imagine that staying occupied is quite inportant to - and for - your dad now.
Blessings,

ReplyDeleteWhen I think how perfect that lace would be for the doll clothes I am going to make over the summer holidays....
Fantastic blog; well done!
I love what you did with your fabulous jars, Laura! All that lace is so beautiful. Take it easy on the painting, friend. I know as I've painted every house we've lived in with my father and it can be quite tiring. But...the results will be wonderful I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Love glassware of any kind, but I'm especially a sucker for a vase or jar. . .tried to contact you by e-mail, but don't have outlook and it appears that may be necessary. Can you contact me at grandmothersbutton@gmail.com - we'd love to send you a vintage necklace as a giveaway if you're at all interested. Thanks! Bunny
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with 52 Flea!! A fantastic idea to dress up a jar with a beautiful bit of lace---I'm going to do that for a family gathering.
