Utility Light Cage Repurposed
When I bought this utility light bulb protector cage thingamagig from Gather in Ivoryton, CT....I knew just what I was going to do with it.....The light bulb was still in it and a burned off cord was coming out the bottom of the wooden handle. My dad took out the cord and removed the bulb....I promptly put a tiny bird's nest complete with a few downy feathers in the cage and placed a quail's egg inside....
After I took this photo I tied a wide soft brown and cream striped ribbon on it and it hangs in the lake house.....
Imagine my surprise tonight when I walked into Anthropologie and there was an entire wall of these thingamagigs!
Who knew?
Hope your weekend is going well!
:) Laura

Well Miss 52 Flea (grin) you certainly are on the Anthropologie cutting edge with your thingamagig. I love your repurposed light, how fun is that!

You are ahead of your time, Laura! THEY should hire YOU! :)
So who says the big retailers set the trends? Looks like you're a step ahead of 'em! Well done!

Isn't that just the best? That's what I call playing with electricity.
How creative and lovely! Have a blessed day:)
Oh Laura, if only you had patented it...you would now be a millionaire !!!!
Yours looks as if it was made for a nest and the ones in Anthropology are great.
They remind me of the film 'Runaway Bride' with Richard Gere and Julia Roberts...she made light and lamps out of hardware so you're up there with the stars !! XXXX
Gorgeous re-purposing Laura!
I love the original usage too. [not to mention that fabulous mirror from Anthropologie!]
Have a great Sunday

I love this new birds-nest-cage; it is soo creative! Hugs, Traude
Hi Laura. Love your birds nest in the utility light. Last year my (now 17) year old son took apart a light bulb...removed it's inards...and suspended it from a wood base with wire holder. Very cool looking. Had to drag him in to Anthropologie to see their lightbulb "art". He's taking AP Physics this year so this "art" is all about getting into the guts of working things. I like Anthropologie's current reverence for industry and science.
Love the look of the wire cages around the light bulbs. And the little nest is to cute! Sandi
So creative!!! You always have such interesting ideas, you should do all their display at Anthologies!!!
What fun!

I love those cage lamps! So creative!

Love how you transformed it. It could have been cool if you kept the wire attached.....which I didn't remember it even had but either way it's wonderful.

Just love it. Great "designer" minds think alike!
Brilliant! How clever. Something for me to try next year. Today we are putting away all the garden things, as the fall weather has arrived here.
I think I'm going to have to raid the garage again now :-)
