Little Vintage Christmas Bear

The snow was beautiful this morning....
...not as much as was called for but about 8 inches...
This little bear has been in the family for over 50 years...
(For some unfathomable reason...I am not allowed to tell you who he belonged to or what his cute little name is...but he wasn't mine! :)...)

Today he is sitting in a vintage sewing basket that was trimmed a long time ago with a few Christmas bells, faux greens and ornaments...

I added the vintage Santa ornament and old toy blocks...

The tinsel is vintage as well...found at the flea market last summer...

My assistant Starla and I finally finished up decorating the tree with our vintage ornaments this afternoon...

and finally...a vintage Christmas photograph of my Mom, my sister and myself...
...sweet memories of childhood....see those matching Christmas dresses?
My Nana made them for us....
I wore mine until I outgrew it and then wore sister Lynn's!

Simple Gifts

Bits and pieces of the lyrics of that old Shaker song have been going 'round in my head all day today...
'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free,
'Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.

'Tis the gift to have friends and a true friend to be,
'Tis the gift to think of others not to only think of "me"
And when we hear what others really think and really feel,
Then we'll all live together with a love that is real.

Trying to keep it simple this holiday season.
Trying to be a true friend.
Trying to listen.

Vintage Blue Christmas

This long holiday weekend turned out to be sunny and cool....we were able to take walks along the Croton and Hudson rivers and enjoy the beautiful November weather...

After Dan left this morning to drive back to school, I started to pull out some Christmas decorations...

Vintage blue ornaments...

Wishing I could stay home tomorrow and continue playing and decorating...
...it will have to wait till next weekend!

Joan of Anything Goes Here is hosting Vintage Christmas Monday....be sure to check out all the other participants and their vintage Christmas treasures!

Vintage Christmas Monday

It was a beautiful morning at the flea market...clear and cold...we were all wrapped up in our scarves and held onto our hot coffee cups to warm our fingers...
I found these vintage ornaments and thought I would share them with you in their "as found" condition for this first Vintage Christmas Monday!
(I'm a bit early but wanted to play along......I am off to bed and then a full day of work tomorrow so this is my early contribution to this blog party! )

I kept this little tinsel nest under a glass cloche all year... now it has an antique golden "egg" and "twigs" of vintage glass beads...

A vintage red bird flew over to sit on the tinsel nest...

You may remember this post done back in September...these pretty vintage turquoise ornaments (perhaps teal or aqua?) are normally sitting in a pretty blown glass jar in the dining room (to admire all year long).
...(click here to see Touch of Turquoise post)

I have been collecting vintage Christmas items for as long as I can remember and can't wait to start digging through the boxes in the attic to share some more with you next Monday. To see more participants in Vintage Christmas Monday visit Joan of Anthing Goes Here.
This will be fun!
Looking forward to a short work week because of the Thanksgiving holiday...
...I'm thankful for THAT!
:)
