Finding Treasures In A Peaceful Place

We had a few lovely, quiet days at the lake...
...enjoying the beauty all around us...
while opening up the camp for the season,
and cleaning up the yard and garden.

On the trip up we made a quick stop at the booth
 and added a few things.
I will have to return soon and spend some time alone...
if you know what I mean...
...to do a major overhaul to my little space.

On the way home we passed through a small town
that was holding a town wide yard sale.
With only a short amount of time and an indulgent Mr. Flea...
...I was able to find a few treasures.

And then yesterday we went to a local church sale.
I love church sales.

Where else can you find something priced for a dime?
Feeling a bit ashamed and as if I was taking advantage
of the kindly lady who was minding her table of bric a brac...
I offered her a few bills and told her to give the rest to her church.

Among my finds were these two old books from the 1890's....
...and this child's necklace with a heart made from mother of pearl.

I hope you had a good weekend too.
Did you do anything fun? Get any gardening done?
Thanks so much for dropping by...

Celebration

Family...
I have been so blessed to have a close and loving family.
And so has Mr. Flea.
Tomorrow we will be celebrating the 90th birthday
 of Mr. Flea's Mom.
She and his Dad (age 92)  are still  healthy and active
and live here in the same retirement community as my Dad.
Yes, I am back in Florida!
Thanks Dan...for holding down the fort up north..again!

You would all just love my mother-in-law Rachel...
...another creative spirit...full of energy and enthusiasm for life.
She was a school teacher for many years
and is a talented artist...still painting with water colors
 and quilting to this day.

This is a bit of lace and silk that long ago
had been tucked away in an envelope by Mr. Flea's grandmother.
They were the remnants of her mother's wedding gown.
(Mr. Flea's great-grandmother)

My mother in law has passed the envelope on to me...
...a keeper of such mementos.
I am delighted to treasure it...
and one day pass these bits of silk and lace
to another keeper within the family.

We have many blessings and reasons to celebrate!

I hope you do too.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Some Little Treasures

A little Show and Tell...
Pictured above (on my newly painted kitchen counter tops) are five sweet ironstone butter pats that I found in the booth of Vicki Potter on Butternut Hill in Bouckville.

Here is an old ironstone bowl that I took a chance on...
(risked $4...I know...I'm such a risk taker :))
...it was so dirty...almost black with grime and mud.
She cleaned up pretty good!

Another budget friendly piece of ironstone...

My shopping buddy Judi and I split the cost of a box of this old Daisy cotton thread.
It still had it's Woolworth tags...
Love the texture...

More lovely creamy cotton thread...this time on wooden spools.

Another sweet bowl from England
which matches several larger bowls at home.
(Also found in Vicki's booth...The Rose Arbor).

Sigh...two box fulls of lace.

...more threads in blue tissue paper.

And then there was this...

A porcelain paint palette...
Made in Germany for F.R.& Co. in New York

...several white lacy hankies

Some serviceable white cups and saucers for the lake house kitchen.
Homer Laughlin...Best China
It was $5 day.
Every single thing (or lot) in this booth was $5 on Wednesday.
On Thursday it was all to be $4...
then on Friday $3...etc.

So...I got 8 cups and 8 saucers for $5!
Now, if only I could get Mr. Flea to drink from these instead of his favorite mug!

A metal crown...
Perhaps I can wear it out kayaking or in the garden. :)

...an assortment of odds and ends.

Anyway...that is all I will show you for today.
More to come soon!

Obviously, I can't reveal the treasures
that I found for the three winners of the Give Back...
...we must keep the surprise!

:)

P.S.  To W. The Antiques Lovers in Italy...
Please click on the blue email me button on my sidebar
and email me the address where you would like your surprise
 from the flea markets sent!

Flea Finds

In between painting, visiting with my sister, pricing vintage goods
and trips to my little booth...
I have had a chance to flea a little.

I found this tall zinc farm item at The Red Barn.
See that little spout and the glass insert?
I love the wooden carrying handle.
It is perfect for holding a variety of things around here...
...maps, a collection of yardsticks, umbrellas, birch branches, etc.
I don't know what it was originally used for...
...I'm guessing milk or cream...
Do you know?

Also found...
Irresistible old photographs of babies and little girls...
When is it too many vintage photos?
(Never you mind, Mr. Flea)

This old shield shaped thing is covered in old brown velvet...
Was it a key holder or medal or ribbon display
 from a Lodge or Club?
I tried it out with some of my favorite silver necklaces.

And lastly, I found this huge spool of lace at the thrift store
and this wee little doggie tape measure at Schoolhouse Treasures.

Actually, there was lots more...
...but there's always next time!

Hope you are having a good week!

Every Little Thing

I have an ever growing appreciation for the little things...
...and am determined to make each moment count!

Texture background by Kim Klassen...

Spending time with my parents at the lake these last summer days...
...I am so appreciative of this gift of time...

It was a beautiful weekend here in the mountains...
I hope the week ahead brings all good things!

Ruffled and Lacy White Flowers

Our white iris are blooming!

Aren't these ruffled petals so beautiful?

We have a lot of romantic white flowers in our yard this spring...

It seems as if it would be the perfect place for an outdoor wedding...

I found this milk can at the sale across the street last weekend...

...and these two silver baby spoons at a yard sale...

Wait! Is that a bride I see?

...or a ghost?

I think Starla is playing hide and seek!

Hope your week is going well..
So far I've done some organizing as well as some painting and even a little crafting too!
