Flea Market in the Rain

It is peak leaf peeping season in the Adirondacks....the mountains are full of forests of golds and reds. This weekend, in my travels to the Warrensburg sale, I had hoped to take and be able to show you lots of beautiful autumn pictures...

Unfortunately, it rained the entire weekend and the fog and clouds obscured nature's beauty...

Our dock....looking out over the lake to the mountains beyond....(use your imagination!)

Maybe next weekend, when we drive north one last time to close our place up for the winter...
Maybe then the sun will shine?

Anyway, the rain did not keep Joanna and I from driving to Warrensburg and traipsing all over the town with our slickers on...

There was definitely more junk (and I mean uninteresting, landfill type junk) than treasures this time. Perhaps it was due to the weather and folks not wanting to ruin their wares in all the rain..
There were bargains to be had however and I did score a few....
...Those I will show you in tomorrow's post....
Here are a few shots of small items being sold out of buckets and boxes set out on the wet ground:

This dealer had a ton of crystals....

stoppers...

door knobs...

more crystals...

all sizes...

keys...

letters...

typewriter keys...

butter pats...old marbles...

old type...

sleigh bells...

white ironstone...

and of course, since we are in the Adirondacks...all kinds of snowshoes, back packs and skis...

Despite the weather, we had fun, as two girlfriends with acres of junk to look at will do....there was excitement in the form of a lost gas cap and low tires...
...a huge variety of street food....we avoided the blooming onion and fried dough...but couldn't resist the homemade chocolate chip cookies...

Thanks to all who left comments and information for me on my previous posts on the icons and other religious artifacts....
...wait till you see what I found in two cigar boxes!

Have a good evening!

Every Surface Covered

One of the complaints I often hear is that there is no place to set a drink down.....every surface is covered with one thing or another....a collection or an arrangement or vignette....

It is true....being a lifelong collector....I tend toward the impractical....I'm definitely a form over function kind of girl....(although this bell has a purpose I suppose)....

I not only enjoy collecting my vintage finds....I love to display them.....

...so I can see them....and enjoy them......What good would they be packed away somewhere?

I love to create little vignettes....here at the lake house....they mostly have to do with nature...

Some vintage seed packets in an old tin letter holder.....the flower in the center is an old clip earring....

About seven or eight years ago I painted this old display for seed packets black as I thought it went well with the graphics on the vintage packets.....maybe it should be white???

lots of these old clothes pins....

These are just a few of the many sweet grass baskets that have been collected over the years...many are sewing items....

Some pretty petals under glass......I have a bunch of these old glass paperweights in not as good condition and one day I plan to re-do them with pretty papers and bits of lace, etc.....

Don't you just love this....Miss Mildred Miller's Dew of Roses...for the complexion.....
Beware of Imitations!
....I am grateful that my family puts up with me covering every surface with my "treasures"....I know it isn't practical at all and is sometimes annoying....but it does make for interesting conversation sometimes....:) maybe?
.....So those are a few more of the bits and pieces sitting around the lake house....hope you enjoyed them....more to come!!
