Serving Up Junk

The summer is flying by!
Family and friends are coming and going...
This weekend I spent some Sister time
with my beautiful and youngest sister Mary Beth.
She has inspired me to eat better, walk further and dig deeper....

  Speaking of digging...
this cache of junk is the result
of someone's digging in their back yard...
...offered up for sale in an old tin at a yard sale this weekend.

I found some neat old wood tool carriers...

strap hinges and old hardware from a barn door...

...a few zinc washtubs.
Isn't this one cool?

...some old wood boxes...

...and my favorite find...
...a pair of old shoe factory racks.

Can't wait to get these cleaned up.
Any suggestions for getting the old glue off the dowels?

Hoping you are all well and enjoying your summer!
Haven't had much time for visiting around my favorite blogs
but please know I am thinking of you!

Wishing you joy filled days and peaceful nights...
Take care, Laura...
... Mr. Flea, Dad and Uncle Don too! :)

Try gingerly dabbing on lighter fluid on the glue. Be careful about the finish on the wood of course. That is my go to fluid to remove glue and sticky stuff. They are fabulous shelves.

What is it about 'old junk' that makes my heart pitter patter?

I don't take the old glue off-just leave it on. It looks cool and it doesn't hurt anything. All your treasures look great-love the bottom of the washtub. Can I come shopping with you?

I found one of the racks from a local shoe factory, offered at a local "junk" store. I love it and plan to store old quilts and pillows on it in a farmhouse we are restoring. Mine has these little bitty staples all in the dowels! I'm afraid to remove them, afraid I may break a dowel. In your case, unless the glue is sticky, I think I'd leave it. Just adds to the character.

Wonderful shoe racks! To remove old glue, you can try warming it with the hair dryer and then with a sponge with some paint thinner.
Ciao!

LOVE your shopping, always. The dowels are wood, right? I'd just use some really hot water on towels; let soak for a while. Won't harm the wood and usually works fine.

I sold mine and am wishing I kept one for my son's room makeover that I am planning!
Have you tried goo gone? Jim used it and it worked pretty good!

Ooooo Laura I love eeverything! Would love to have one of those shoe racks... been looking for awile.

I would start with alcohol, then nail polish remover & if that doesn't work something stronger or you could just leave it! Sounds that you are having a pleasant summer, glad your enjoying it.

Hi Laura,
just go to HomeDepot or Lowes. They have all different removers. Buy the smallest amount and try different things. The racks are neat, and so is the zinc tub.
Hugs and kisses,
Evi
