Celebration

Family...
I have been so blessed to have a close and loving family.
And so has Mr. Flea.
Tomorrow we will be celebrating the 90th birthday
 of Mr. Flea's Mom.
She and his Dad (age 92)  are still  healthy and active
and live here in the same retirement community as my Dad.
Yes, I am back in Florida!
Thanks Dan...for holding down the fort up north..again!

You would all just love my mother-in-law Rachel...
...another creative spirit...full of energy and enthusiasm for life.
She was a school teacher for many years
and is a talented artist...still painting with water colors
 and quilting to this day.

This is a bit of lace and silk that long ago
had been tucked away in an envelope by Mr. Flea's grandmother.
They were the remnants of her mother's wedding gown.
(Mr. Flea's great-grandmother)

My mother in law has passed the envelope on to me...
...a keeper of such mementos.
I am delighted to treasure it...
and one day pass these bits of silk and lace
to another keeper within the family.

We have many blessings and reasons to celebrate!

I hope you do too.

Have a wonderful weekend!
:)

Rare to hear the name Rachel in a woman of that age. Refreshing in the age of Gertrudes, Matildas and Frannies.

Wow, that is truly special. My grandparents both were extremely fortunate to survive the Armenian genocide of 1915. They had to flee for their lives and everything material was left behind. We have no family heirlooms or special momentos. My parents moved our young family to Canada when I was just 3, again not having much to bring with them. I think that is why I love antiques and vintage items, and choose to surround myself with it. I feel that maybe I crave history, even if it isn't mine.

Oh Laura
What a treasure you have - that is such a lovely idea for an heirloom family keepsake.
In fact it has made me think of making several such packages of keepsakes for my children and grandchildren - what pieces to include - my mind is brimming over with ideas!

Wishing your dear MIL a belated "Happy 90th Birthday", she sounds such a darling and loves all the things we do!
You must have all had a fun day.

Enjoy your Sunday

How wonderful to have these lovely keepsakes to pass down to future generations and to treasure while they are in your possession. Being the keeper of family heirlooms is a wonderful position to be in. Your mother in law sounds like a lovely lovely lady. How blessed you truly are to have her. I have goose bumps just thinking about this post ;-)

Hi Laura. I recently found your blog and it has quickly become one of my favorites! I love your photography and I have enjoyed accompanying you on all your escapades. I hope I'm not being too nosy, but I wonder if your lakehouse is at Lake Pleasant. I vacationed there at Baker's Cabins for many years during my childhood. That was 50 years ago, but the lake looked very familiar to me!
