Madison Bouckville 2010

Driving out of the mountains on Wednesday into the farmlands of beautiful upstate New York I was full of anticipation and excitement.
Once again, I was off on my annual trek to Bouckville to hunt for treasure.

Although alone this time and missing my girls...
I was happy to be spending the day in the fields and hoped to meet a few bloggers who had let me know that they were also going to be there.

It was a fabulous day!
My time was limited and there was so much to see!
I dug right in but...
... could hardly scratch the surface...

The Linen Lady from Maryland was there with all her beautiful things...

As usual...I went straight to her dollar table!

For all you doll lovers...Tory-Beth Radwick of Dolls of Chester Springs had a beautiful collection of quality dolls and a lovely display...

I saw so many things!
Charming things...

Rustic things...loved these little birdhouses...

Remarkable things...look at the beautiful long braid on this woman!

...and even some scary things!

Although last year I brought home lots of rusty and utilitarian items ....
this year I seemed to gravitate toward more girly things!

...lots and lots of lace...

odds and ends....bits and bobs...

...my usual dollar aprons and hankies...

...some assemblage and jewelry making treasures...

A sweet little velvet jewelry box..

...old sewing notions...
...ribbons, seam binding and yes, even more buttons!

I loved this Victorian piece with the bird on top...
...was it to hold spoons along the side?
I am sure I will figure out something to do with it! :)

I couldn't resist this lovely cotton slip...
...and it fits!
All I need to do is get out my cowboy boots and jean jacket...

...sigh, so feminine!

I also brought home this pretty tucked and lace underskirt...

Lots of linens...

Four pretty vintage slips in pristine condition...

...and more blue glass...

I was really pleased...
...exhausted but happy tired as I shared my day with my parents back at the lake.
I will try to show more pictures of the rest of my finds this week.

At the end of the day I was able to meet with Gina from Vintage Junk In My Trunk (bottom row below) and her husband Paul. Gina is adorable and Paul a veteran treasure hunter. They spend four days here each year looking and sharing their passion for antiques and junk. What a fun couple...I would have loved to spend more time with them.

I also met and spent a few minutes with Judi (top left) from The 1829 Farmhouse and her husband Dan. They are also a lovely couple and we hope to meet up next year and spend more time hunting together!

I was sorry to miss Sue from Vintage Rescue Squad.
This is her first year at MB and so far she is loving it!

Although another day or two shopping here would have been heaven...
...I am grateful to have had this day in the sun... having fun...meeting new friends and doing that thing I do!

Today is my first contribution to Kim Klassen's The Inspiration Studio.
Are you looking to find inspiration and a place to share the beauty and goodness around us?

Kim has lined up some wonderful contributors from different venues and I am honored to have been asked to participate. You can check it out HERE...

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Last Flea For Me

Well, not really the last flea ever....just the last flea market for the season!
And look what I found! Giant number 52...old metal signs from a gas station. They were a bargain because they appeared to be rusty....when I washed them off at home it turned out to be just caked on mud so they cleaned right up and now they look pretty good! I have no idea what to do with them....but am sure I will figure something out!

Some nice old wooden blocks...

Buckets of locally grown beautiful fresh cranberries!

...and an old cranberry scoop a few tables away...

Work this week has been really tough and I was beginning to think I was losing my marbles...
...not to worry...there were lots and lots of marbles at the flea this week!

Look at this box full of feathers!

A lovely lady was considering this vintage pink girdle with attached garters....I promised I wouldn't reveal her face if she held it up for me to take a picture!

And then it started to get weird! A French couple were selling these mannequins...

...and this porcelain pair of hands

...and this half dress form covered in white linen...
The porcelain hands and dress form came home with me....for very little money.
The wheels are turning in my head...I'm full of ideas!

This beige linen table cloth and napkins were vintage but never used...

Clark thread advertising cards....great graphics on the back and sweet lake pictures on the front!

I found a wonderful photo album with a brown tooled leather cover...it was full of early photographs and tin types...

...a striking beauty!

I was pleased as the prices were very reasonable. I have a feeling that the dealers were trying to move as much merchandise as possible since it is the end of the season...

This, however was the icing on the cake! A box full of letters from 1866 to 1871...beautiful old penmanship...I am waiting for a quiet time when I can sit and read through these...the few I looked at seemed to be written from a daughter to her mother. I will make copies to use in art projects.

So, together with the vintage Christmas ornaments you saw yesterday, this completes my finds at this last flea for me! I will miss this particular market during the next few cold and wintry months ... and will be ready to go when it opens again in April.
Take care,
:) Laura

Madison Bouckville Reverie

The girls arrived on Thursday, full of anticipation and enthusiasm...they had talked and laughed and shopped all the way from Connecticut.....

Friday morning we set out early....the day was beautiful, the sky blue, the farmland and country side... picture perfect...

We decided to shop the street and surrounding vendors on Friday...and save the big show until Saturday...

We made it!

Get ready! Set! Go!

Everywhere we looked there was something different to see.....all sorts of treasure....

This was one of the first booths we stopped at.....very interesting things....Paula started off the day in a big way.....

No, she didn't bring this fellow home....thank goodness....but....

This iron contraption....what is it? What could it become? Stay tuned....

Every sort of thing imaginable, any type of antique or collectible could be found...

Linens galore...

Glass flower frogs...

Shabby chic and French finds...

Industrial antiquities...

We were told that these old silvered glass apothecary bottles were originally from England...

This booth was quite possibly the most interesting to me...

They were a little pricey for us and the dealer wanted to sell them by the case....Paula charmed him and we each came home with one!!....Now we wish we had bought a whole case!!

This booth was under the shade of one of the big tents (it was over 90 degrees both days).
It had fabulous, unique, museum quality items...

Deanna found this sweet set of small shopping baskets to use in her shop....GATHER....a wonderfully unique gift and consignment boutique and gathering place located in charming Ivoryton, Ct.

She also found this wonderful crystal chandelier at a fabulous price which I was very tempted to "take off her hands"...

This may have been Deanna's favorite find.....antique picture molding for her beautiful Victorian home...It was in pristine condition...

And here is Paula with her Waltzing Matilda.....It was love at first sight....her eyes glazed over as she stood gazing at her....Carole, Deanna and I wandered to the next booth and when Paula caught up to us the first thing she said was..."You never should have left me alone...."

This was the car this morning as the girls packed and got ready to shop their way back to Connecticut......You will notice what is tied to the top of Carole's Suburban......
Yes, that strange object.....part of which we were told was originally a portion of something related to bailing hay....will become an object of interest and a beautiful focal point in Paula's gardens.....just wait until the next house and garden tour!

We had a wonderful time shopping this show together....I know you all would have loved it! I have to say that I was able to find some goodies to send to my three winners of the 200th post Give Back! So, stay tuned girls....I don't want to ruin their surprises...

I will try to post more pictures and more details this week....Carole found many exciting treasures for her shop, herself and the winner of her 100th post give away....she will be posting as soon as she can...

Thanks for coming along with us on our special girls' weekend....What could be better than good friends and fields and fields of old treasures?
Have a great night!
:) Laura
