Goodbye Irene!

We are safe!
Thank you for all your thoughts, prayers and concern
for my family, friends and all the folks up and down the east coast.
There are many people dealing with picking up the pieces...
flooding, downed trees, etc.

My Dad and I, up in the Adirondack mountains,
survived 24 hours of harrowing wind and rain.
Branches and debris hit the roof and rain pelted the windows from all directions.
 It was scary!
We watched 3 huge pine trees fall and crash down at the edge of the property...and are so grateful that they fell into the woods and not toward our homes.

We do not have any electric power up here now and don't expect it to be restored for several days.
There are numerous trees hanging on the power lines.

But despite laying awake last night, listening to the giant pines cracking...intermittent sleep and lots of prayers...
this morning the sky was bright blue and everything was calm.

Mr. Flea is back home  dealing with
more downed trees in the yard there and a flooded basement.
Kate, after being evacuated, is hoping to get back to her apartment in Brooklyn and then to Manhattan to work sometime later today.

Here is a snapshot of the outlet for the lake....
notice the water is flowing into the lake!

The forecast is for sunny skies the rest of the week.
We are thankful for that as we clean up the mess
 Irene has left behind.
Our hearts go out to those who have suffered more damage
in other areas that were hit even harder.

It may be a while before we have power restored...
...until then, thank you again for your prayers!
Take care my friends,
Laura and family

Laura, I'm glad to hear that you all are safe. My father spoke to his brother on Rutland Vermont last night and they are safe as well, although they have friends who are not sure about their homes. My heart goes out to all that were Irene's path. Here in Texas, we are still frying, it is so dry. It was 110 yesterday.

Smiles,

Carol

Hi Laura,
I'm so glad you came out of the storm alright. Having sustained a lot of damage in Ike a few years ago, I know how scary it is.
Enjoy your gorgeous weather now that the storm has passed and hope your power is restored soon!

Dear Laura and family,
So happy to hear that all is well with you and your family after Irene. Although you have trees down and some damage, it seems that it wasn't as bad as they thought, so that was good. I really feel for everyone who have flooding and damage but, at least that can be cleaned up. I hear that there were some lives lost so our hearts go out to their families and friends.
Hope it won't be too long before you get your power back. I hope that Carole and George didn't suffer too much. Lots of love to you all. XXXX

Laura, I am so glad that you and your Dad are OK. They did not predict it as well for all the people upstate, Vermont etc. Maybe somemore precautionary things could have been done there, than all the hype for New York. I guess, storms like this can never be predicted right. I am so glad these trees did not hit your house. Know how that feels, having been hit twice. Our little town was cut off from the rest of the world, mainstreet became a raging flood and there is a lot of heavy clean-up to do. Some bridges are out too. We had 10 1/2 " of rain just on Sunday...and it rained the day before. Lost power three times, but it is back now. Thank God for our generator.
The driveway washed out again, but we are all fine!
I hope that you guys get back to normal very soon. I send you all my best wishes.
Saw pictures of Brattleboro, Vermont on TV. God, how awful!!!!!
It was nice to talk to you the other day.
Miss you and love you lots,
Evi

So glad you are well. Wondered about Kate and how both our kids will get to work today from Brooklyn. Hannah does not start school until next week so no problem for her.
Watched CNN all morning and my heart breaks for all those suffering.
Stay safe :D

So sorry about the storm how frightening, but goodness what a magical place. I have just finished reading a lovely book about that area by Jennifer Donnelly called A Gathering Light it is a super read.

Glad you are all ok, Laura. It wasn't very bad here; the tornado warnings freaked me out more than any old hurricane, and we sat in the basement for a bit, but no water damage or power outages for us. We dodged a bullet as the other part of town has both!

Laura, I'm so glad to read that you are OK. I lived on the gulf coast as a kid and went through many hurricanes. You just never know what will happen. My heart goes out to all who were effected.

Laura, I am so happy you are safe and without damage to your lake house and hope Mr. Flea doesn't have too much work to do at your home. Having been through 3 terrible hurricanes in Florida, I know how frightening it is. Glad to see the peace and tranquility back!

So glad you are safe! I live in Colorado now but I am from Vermont. The devastation is terrible there! My home town had buildings washed away. So many covered bridges, just gone. My heart goes out to all that have suffered.

I am so happy to hear that you and your family made it thru the storm relatively ok! My thoughts and prayers are with those who didn't fair as well!

So good to know that you and your loved ones came out of the storm unscathed, Laura! It was such an answer to prayer that Irene did NOT do as much damage as first feared possible.

Originally, we were included in the predicted areas of its path for NC. However, with the change in its course, we only got heavy rains and winds of about thirty miles per hour. Thank goodness!

Prayers are still needed for those who suffered greater losses, however.

Blessings,
