A month or so ago....I was browsing about Joan's Etsy Shop ...that would be Joan from Anything Goes Here...
...and was delighted to find 3 small shell boxes.
I already have one of these delicate little cases...
I think they may have been made to hold rosary beads.
In any case, I bought the three and now I have a collection!
Joan likes to buy and sell anything in multiples.
I couldn't resist these little wooden Bingo balls.
Yes, I found my number!
I love to look at Joan's shop as she has so many interesting everyday items which she arranges and photographs in clever ways.
Joan has been an antique dealer for a very long time. She is very knowledgeable and a big collector herself. She only recently opened her Etsy shop and because I would like to open my own one day as well...I asked her if I could do an interview with her... on her Etsy selling experiences. She agreed and if you would like to read the interview ... I have posted it to The Inspiration Studio.
Probably my favorite find to date in Joan's shop are these Victorian porcelain tacks.
The bottle on the right is marked Calder's Dentine.
Don't the tacks look like little white teeth?
I don't recall ever seeing porcelain tacks like these before.
Where in the world did you ever find these Joan?
I am on my way to Warrensburg early Saturday morning...
to their annual town wide yard sale.
The weather looks as if it will be perfect for spending a day poking around lots of junk!
I will be sure to take lots of pics and hopefully will find a bit of treasure!
Have a wonderful weekend!
:)
have a great time! I'm off in a bit here too...

Laura,
ReplyDeleteYou find the most interesting things. I love the porcelain tacks...and the Bingo balls...but especially your collection of shell boxes. I have seen those and always thought they were pill boxes (but maybe that is the more modern version).
Have a good time in Warrenton. Those sales (as I am sure you now, are often the best place to get the goods!
Hugs,
Suz

ReplyDeleteHello there! So good to meet you here. Your blog is so inviting and inspiring, Laura:) I had Stopped by Charlotte Lyons blog and saw your comment about coming to Silver Bella. It will be such fun. It just feels so normal to be there, like coming home. Hope to meet you there! Have you found your hat yet? I think it will be interesting to see what each woman brings. Always great inspiration to see how we all create in these classes. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns, this is my 3rd year! I'm in both of Charlottes classes so maybe meet you there?!

Love Joan's shop! She does find the best things and her photos of them are inspiring. She has been a big help to me on my Etsy shop. Love the little shell boxes!

I will certainly be visiting her etsy store! Great items and these cases are amazing! xoxoxo ~Ashley
ReplyDeleteThose shell boxes are amazing!
ReplyDeleteInstant, fabulous collection!
Hugs,
Anne
Love the shell rosary boxes. Isn't it fun to go from having just one to suddenly having a "collection"? For me that's dangerous, though. When I've decided I have a collection of a particular thing, then I give myself excuses for spending more money than I normally because it's an "addition to my collection."
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend hunting for more treasures!
My word, you have very interesting finds. I have never seen the little purses or tacks.
ReplyDeleteyvonne
Just love all of these - I'm hopping right over to visit.
ReplyDeleteHow funny...not as in ha ha, but as in what a cowinkydink. I just bought 5 of those little shell boxes today to add to my small collection. Aren't they charming?
ReplyDeleteI'll be sure and read the interview.
Debbie
~*such fun treasures!!! ;)Rachel~*~
ReplyDeleteI like your finds, especially the bingo balls. Hugs, LizlovesVintage
ReplyDeletei read the interview with joan and i found it to be very helpful and enjoyed it. Bestest,Denise
ReplyDeletePerhaps those shell boxes are souvenier trinkets bought to remember times spent by the seashore? Those tacks look decidedly industrial to me, porcelain is a good electrical conductor, perhaps they were used to hold wires in place.
ReplyDeleteI have visited Joan's esty shop and every time I go back to order the item has sold...boo hoo for me!
ReplyDeleteLove it all the bingo balls, shell boxes and tacks.
Have fun at the show.

Those little cases are so sweet. Love them. Lucky you.
ReplyDeleteI met Joan and her wonderful husband when I set up next to them this Spring at the Grayslake Flea market. Warm, inviting, helpful, chatty,- just like an old friend. It was my lucky weekend. She is so creative...and her prices are so reasonable.
