Something Old, Something New, Something Blue
Something blue....
...Here I am at Anthropologie...check out the displays made from recycled dyed blue paper....such a cloudy ethereal effect. There were also very pretty flowers hanging over the register area that upon a closer look revealed themselves to be created from plastic bottles...
...very creative use of recycled materials and looked much prettier than it sounds...
(sorry no photo)
Here are those funnels again...this time holding pink spring like flowers....
OK...
... I tried a few floaty, romantic thingies on...
Here is the something new...
...cute little white spice containers...
ON SALE for only $1.95 each!
This is something old...
...how old? I'm not sure.
I bought it at the flea market last weekend because it was wire with a nice rusty patina and not very expensive.
...not too sure of its origins...
Has anyone seen a wire basket like this?
Now this...I really like.
It is apparently from an old store...
...it hung on the wall or on the counter maybe.
I am not sure what it was used for but the old paper is rather narrow...only about 10 inches across. Is it wrapping paper? for gifts? for fish?
I love the graphics. I wonder what it was used for...what do you think?
Even though skies are cloudy...the apple blossoms on the old trees are gorgeous.
I am grateful for so many happy memories of growing up on my grandparent's farm.
My brother and sisters and I had so much fun climbing all the old fruit and chestnut trees.
Good times...precious memories!
So that is my something old, new and blue for today....
...did you think we were going to a wedding?
Hope Tuesday is not as wet as the last two days!
:)
I Love those spice jars, your flowers are beautiful as well as your blog! Rhonda
ReplyDeleteHi Laura,
ReplyDeleteI love Anthropolgie! They always have such unique decor! The wire basket is so great! I love anything with wire and rust!
The wrapping paper is so cool! I think that would be fun to have in my studio.
Have a wonderful week,
Rosemary
Hi Laura,
ReplyDeleteI think the paper is for a floral department...I remember the design choices were much more utilitarian back in the day...the blossoms are gorgeous! Here in Victoria BC it was very windy today and it was 'snowing' pink blossoms when I walked my son to school...lovely!
Cheers,
Veerle
Hi Laura,
ReplyDeleteLovely photos from Anthro!! Don't we all just love it there?!!! Those spice jars are gorgeous, and the price is fantastic. I wish I lived closer to one. Your photos are so lovely, as always!
Have a great week.
Sincerely,
Melinda
Love the Anthro pics - it's always a treat to go in their stores!
ReplyDeleteI love the paper cutter you found - I just bought one last weekend (without paper) at our local antique mall and can't wait to get the paper in it. Mine is a little bit newer than yours but still old. It's on my current blog post. I'm going to load it with white paper to use for everything from now on! Not sure what your paper would have been used for but it's a great looking thing!
The apple tree pics are just lovely ~ thanks for sharing!
Our apples trees are blooming, too, Laura~ I just love them! I love the paper and the rack, such a nice smaller size... and the spice jars are so sweet!
ReplyDeleteLaura, I love the decor at Anthropologie too! You found some sweet things, I don't know if I like the wire basket better than the paper roller-both really nifty. The basket seems really unique in design. Have a lovely week!

Have a wonderful week. Rita

Anne
Hi Laura
ReplyDeleteLove the paper or bottles or whatever they are... Anthro always comes through with some great display ideas.
Loved that top, did you get it?
Blessings
Rebecca
Anthropologie has some of the most fun window displays. I liked their holiday trees from yardsticks idea.
ReplyDeleteThe spice jars are adorable and so is the price.
The 10" wide gift wrap was most likely from a jewelry store. That was the main sized used when I worked in one.
Absolutely loved getting caught up on all of your recent posts...flowers and blossoms...old silver...raspberries...and wire baskets are all favorites. Your photo styling is wonderful. Always enjoy my visits here.

I'm always amazed at what Anthro does with recyling!!
ReplyDeleteLaura amor, I love your finds, the lil spice jars are cute. My aunt has a paper cutter like that in their store now, they use it for wrapping small things like cheeses, dried meats, making cones for nuts, candy etc...it is like an old mercantile up in the mountains...I love visiting but always want to bring so much back from it with me, like her old string holder that hangs in a pretty cast iron ball :) I love your memories of playing in the fruits trees, funny but when I was little I loved climbing up in our big trees, and eat my baloney & cheese sandwiches...now I am afraid to even sit on a branch...what if I fall lol sometimes I wish I was my age, but with the gift of no fear from youth! Hope you have a beautiful dry week :) besos, Rose
ReplyDeleteHi - I know I keep saying it - but oh how I would love to go to Anthropologie! So not fair! I need to wander through a shop and just soak it up. Fingers crossed they open more in the UK...x
ReplyDeletebonjour Laura,
ReplyDeletej'adore ces papiers bleus.
En France on trouve pas mal de dévidoir à papier ,souvent à plusieurs étages dans le mien j'ai mis mes ficelles.
Passe une bonne journée

Aaah, that wire basket is gorgeous, I would have snapped that up straight away as well. It is a lovely shape and a very pretty all over design. Not sure what it would have been used for, but in France wire baskets were often used for collecting and storing eggs. Who cares anyway, it is beautiful, whatever you fill it with.
ReplyDeleteHello Laura,

I love the one in Santa Monica 3rd street promenade it is the best building you just want to move in.

ReplyDeleteWow, love the pretties on your post and I did think I was going to a wedding:) Love the spice containers and the paper roll! Beautiful blooms in you part of the world:) Have a blessed day dear Laura!
ReplyDeleteOh what a fun trip to Anthropologie, I so wish we had one where I live! I guess I will just have to shop vicariously through you!!
ReplyDeleteThat basket is spectacular! From the pix it looks like an authentic OLD basket. I learned (from another Brim person) that if it is "wound" at the joints and not soldered it is an indication of age. Great score!

I have been wanting one of those paper rolls for awhile... really like that one :)
ReplyDeleteMichelle
Laura your apple blossoms brought a sigh from here. Did you hear me? It was a big one. Your pictures are so lovley.
ReplyDeleteThe old Mercantile here, had one of those old rolls in it. They used it to wrap the gifts and sometimes when I would buy fabric, Vera would wrap it sweetly for me. There is an old drug store in Sun Valley,Idaho, not far from me, Where they still wrap the gifts with this cutter, so you can evidently still order the paper somewhere.
Great finds as always!
hugs
Such a beautiful blog! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCheryl
Love your blog and love Anthropologie - visits are a great way to soak up tons of inspiration! The paper dispenser/cutter was from an old store. It most likely held brown kraft paper that was used to wrap groceries/fruit/other purchases from an old general store or old grocery store. My grandfather had a hometown grocery business in the Depression and my Dad has a photo of him behind the counter with a paper holder like the one in your photo. Lots of great stories from my Dad about working in that store from childhood on . . .
ReplyDeleteI love anthropologie. And your finds are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteIt's impossible to walk into Anthro and not come out with something fabulous! Now, I could probably afford those sweet little jars!LOL
ReplyDeleteYour rusty old basket would have been callin my name too.
Lovely flowers and lovely post
hugs
Sissie
Oooo , a wonderful mix of fabulous objects, Laura. Anthropologie displays are the best. I hope that they win awards for them. They are fantastic installations in their own right.
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember, when I was a child, that they had wrapping paper like that in the big department stores on the counters, and wrapped peoples purchases with it and tied them up with string but, I think the roll was brown paper. Maybe the string was in Victorian times. I think that they used sellotape in my youth. I'm old but I'm not that old !! XXXX
Bonjour Laura,
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous collection of photos. Anthropologie does have the best displays and styling, bu the gorgeous apple blossoms are the best.
Hppe you're having a great week,
Mimi
What great pics! I love seeing funnels used that way, fabulous way to display all sorts of things!
ReplyDeleteDan
I always enjoy going to Anthropologie, they have the most creative ideas for display. Ours has the plastic bottle flowers which are really pretty (who knew).
ReplyDeleteDid you buy a floaty blouse? I love the ones you show! :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a clever post and beautiful images. ~ Angela
ReplyDeleteLove all your beautiful new goodies, especially the wire basket. Your posts are always so pretty.
ReplyDeleteDebby
I bought a paper roll a couple of years ago and use it for my paper towels. I'd never have my paper towels out if it wasn't for the vintage holder. Didn't stores use to wrap everything in paper? That's just a guess. I love Anthro displays. That's the main reason I go in. I was actually in one this week and wasn't very impressed. Last time there was a whole garden of flowers made out of water bottles. It was gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if maybe the paper was a shelf liner in a store? I love paper rollers-I have 4 complete ones and a couple of just parts!
ReplyDeleteI love the paper and the cutter, how great is that? Always paper, ready to go, with a built in pair of scissors {which I can never find!}
ReplyDeletexo Lidy
My brother-in-law used to work in a men's store. They had a paper cutter like that and it held wrapping paper to wrap a present for a man (always masculine looking paper). They also had a bow making machine that I would have loved to have. You just put the ribbon roll on it and turned a crank and it made a bow much like the bows you buy already made today. These two items made wrapping a gift very easy for the male clerks. The store itself had been in business for many years and had vintage fixtures but very up to date merchandise. It was very popular.
