Lilac Inspired Luncheon
As Mr. Flea left for work this morning...he gave me a kiss and asked what I had planned for the day...
...Oh, I was full of plans...they involved clearing the dining room table of all my stuff so we could actually sit down and have dinner....
After he drove off, I took Big Blue, as usual filled to the brim with steaming hot coffee and walked out back to see the lilacs which are now in full bloom.
I breathed deep...taking in their heady fragrance...
I gazed up at the clear beautiful blue sky with complete gratitude...
...and that's when it hit me...
I was lilac-ly inspired....
Back inside, I hunted down Nana's old white pitcher...
...the next thing you know I was setting the table...
...wouldn't Talulah Rose and Mildred Grace love to have luncheon out here by the lilac stand?
...an old fabric remnant...some lace hankies...some pretty glasses from Anthropologie...
...I even penned a few place cards for the girls as these delicate glasses are also place card holders...
...some mismatched tarnished silver and milk glass...
Oh...this was fun!
Where did the morning go?
I was all set to dress the girls for their afternoon affair when Mr. Flea arrived home for lunch.
Caught in the act!
He doesn't usually come home during the day...
Do you think he was checking up on me?
I'm really liking being home.
:)
Sounds like you were having a great time !!!
ReplyDeleteCaught playing! Yep but what a sweet table for tea you set. Love that wonderful pitcher.
ReplyDeleteYour post made me smile, thank you! Your "guests" names made me think of my Nana's name...Viola Rita, quite old fashioned!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty setting! Thanks for sharing it wit us.
ReplyDeleteLovely setting. I'm still waiting for our tiny lilac to bloom.
ReplyDeleteI just love lilacs too! My garden is getting started... I love your photos!
ReplyDeleteThis setting really makes my heart sing a happy tune! I can smell the lilacs. Every element of this table is totally delightful. The hob-nail compotes are so charming and love the idea of the place card holders on the glasses. Anthropologie you say? I think I need to make a trip.
ReplyDeleteLove your girls' names. Truly a fabulous post, Laura!
I just wish I could smell them! They are very beautiful. I'm so glad you are enjoying being home. It's a big, huge transition. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved the scent of Lilacs...they take me back some 30+ years to when I rented a small cottage in Maine and the owner would let me cut the lilacs to bring inside. It was heavenly! sadly I do not have one on my property now, I tried but the poor thing never really got enough sun to bloom.
ReplyDeleteBonjour Laura,

Dear Laura,
ReplyDeleteI'm so pleased that you are enjoying your time at home. I knew you would. You have so much energy and enthusiasm for EVERYTHING that you could never be bored.
Lilac is so beautiful, isn't it ? It is another thing that reminds me of my childhood. I remember that we had lilac in the garden and my mum would bring it indoors in the Spring. I remember being told later in life that it was unlucky but, I never took any notice if that one !! We have two lilac trees. A lilac one and a double white. Ours are not out yet though.
Your table looks beautiful and, I hope that you and Mr. Flea sat down and enjoyed a lovely lunch there. XXXX
What a wonderful way to spend your time - you created such a perfect setting. Charmed.
ReplyDeleteOhhh the smell i love it !

ReplyDeleteMmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........have a great day Laura ! i'am going to the shop............sell my flowers.....................hugs from me........
What a beautifully arranged table setting. And your lilac is already in full bloom, how wonderful. I adore the scent of lilac, it always reminds me of sitting under the lilac tree in my grandmother's garden when I was a little girl. Pity that the two girls didn't get their outing. Still, there is always tomorrow....
ReplyDeleteI just visited another blog with lovely lilacs:) Beautiful, your table is so inviting! Have a blessed day and don't get caught again... playing in the middle of the day.:) Sounds like loads of fun to me!
ReplyDeleteI'm on my way, coffee filled to the brim...you should open a cafe:)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lilacs and the heavenly scent stirs such memories...
ReplyDeleteAfter years of work one is allowed creative time to just play!
Susan
Your lilacs are lovely - mine are far away from bloom time. I'm so glad you're enjoying your time at home. I just knew you would, Laura.
ReplyDeleteOh Laura, I think you are enjoying this a lot! What a lovely setting amongst the beautiful blooms. If only I could be there taking in the fragrance of those gorgeous lilacs...

Your lilac post is marvellous Laura!!! Rob is surely very happy of the lovely table you set! I'm sure he doesn't check up you...too intelligent! I only think that he loves you!!!
ReplyDeleteBig hugs to you both!
Vale
Laura: LOVE your lilacs - many thanks for this wonderful posting. As I have no lilacs at our home near Washington, DC, I can hardly wait to get to upstate NY in May to my HUGE old blooming lilac bush at our farmhouse. You lilac pitcher is absolutely lovely! Cassandra ♥
ReplyDeleteOh how I miss Lilacs! Here on the coast it doesn't get cold enough for them. Oh there are varieties that are supposed to do well here... but nothing can come close to the kind you have! I'm imagining the scent... and I would totally lose track of time too! (:
ReplyDeleteOh so wonderful, wish I could smell them in your post
ReplyDeletekate
I live in upstate NY and the home of the Lilac Festival in Highland Park every May. I believe that here in Rochester it is a law that you must own at least one Lilac bush, or it should be! Mine are just about to bloom thanks to our nice warm (unusual) spring. They are fragrant already and I can get a whiff when I open the porch door. Your luncheon table is perfect!
ReplyDeleteOh my! What a lovely blog! I have the mug that goes w/your Nana's pitcher. What a small, small world, as I've not seen this pattern too very often.
ReplyDeleteHave a good, great day!
I love your lilac post - I did one this week on wisterias ....stop by and visit me sometime - I love to see your posts - you have a fab blog! Jennifer jennsthreegraces MD
ReplyDeleteLilacs are so old-fashioned. I will always remember their scent, along with honeysuckle, from my childhood here in Michigan. If anyone is interested, there is a yearly May Lilac Festival on Mackinaw Island, a gorgeous place to explore if you like history, beauty, and fudge....and there are no cars allowed on the island.
