Calming Down
Over ten years ago Evi made this Santa especially for me... he holds tiny, meaningful treasures that I asked her to include...(the little doll I bought on our trip to Paris)....Isn't he wonderful?
So, after feeling pretty good about my energizing post on all things Christmasy RED yesterday...
...this morning on my way to work, I heard on the radio that red is indeed energizing but stressful and that greens and blues are calming and the way to go this holiday season...
So here are some more blues and greens...and some more stockings!
They were cut and made from antique pieces of toile by Karen Pfaller.
A few vintage blue ornaments...
Remember these green transferware plates I found at the flea market a few weeks ago?
They cleaned up so nice...
...and a few vintage Christmas postcards in blues and greens...
Do you feel calmer? What colors do you prefer for your holiday decorating?

Hi Laura:
ReplyDeleteLove the blues and whites! Living in Florida, I've changed over to blues and whites from our Northern reds. I even add white starfish to our tree. Thanks for the images!

Much calmer... the color does make me feel good. Love those dishes! Everything is so pretty, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThat's a questions I'm trying to decide for myself. Struggling with that this Christmas. I love the neutrals of gold and silver with burlap and linen. But, I love vintage ornaments. My favorite colors to decorate with are red and blue so that's what I'm using. It goes with my house. Upstairs where I'm attempting a beachy look the colors are blue and green. So, pick a room, it could be different.

Well Laura, I'm a little ADD when it comes to decorating. I use everything and every color. I much prefer silvers and reds, but I do it all.
ReplyDeleteI love the beautiful transferware and the simple twig to embellish. Oh boy is that Santa ever lovely!!!
Hugs~
Love the blues, so calming. Great dishes!
ReplyDeleteI think the blues are pretty but I'm still going to have to go with the reds and greens for Christmas! I've got to blame my stress on something :-)

Bonjour Laura!
ReplyDeleteThe toile stockings are wonderful, and the antique postcards depict such caml scenes. We could all use a little of that this time of year!
Lovely pictures...=))
ReplyDeleteHugs Git
You have so many beautiful things, Laura. I think that, whatever I asked you to find, you would be able to put your hands on it !! I love your Father Christmas and the little treasures that he is holding. I always have different colours for Christmas. This year, I think that silver will be prominent with a few other muted colours thrown in....although, in a few days, I could have changed my mind !! XXXX
ReplyDeleteSweet Santa! I love all of the detail that Evi added. I love gold sparkly things, lots of silver and some burgandy! Those are my favorite Christmas decoration colors. Love the vintage stockings and your dishes are too pretty! Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteHi Laura! Felling calmer is just what I need! I'm always so stressed!!! I love the Xmas stockings...nice toile fabrics and the plates are gorgeous! We have a wonderful sunny day today...unfortunately I've to work but I like to see the sun through the windows!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy a nice day!
Big hugs
Vale
de bien jolies choses chez toi j'AIIIIIIIme ton blog et je viens souvens en visite ça me fais bien du plaisir ! continue à m'enchanter MERCI big hug and big kiss Happy christmas lovely Laura
ReplyDeleteI love the pop of red at Christmas. I think it a substitute for sunlight during winter...
ReplyDeleteAs I read your post I'd have to say the combination of the red berries on the green and white plates is most appealing! Santa is so pretty, as are the blue collection and birdy!~ Angela
ReplyDeleteLove the blues. I have a secret addiction to that shade even tho' I don't have it in my home. I just keep a little stash of vintage Christmas that I bring out for the holidays. One of these days, I may just have to pay homage to Tiffany blue in one room.

P.S. Your Santa is fabulous!!!
I want each and every item you have shared with us. You have such a flare for decorating, a wonderful gift you possess. Blessings to you this holiday seaons. Sea Witch
ReplyDeleteI'm not a red, yellow or orange person, although I love to wear red, love red tulips and yellow daffodils. I've decorated for about 3 years now with blues, silvers and greens for the holidays and it does indeed give me an UP and yet peaceful feeling - it also is easier to keep through the winter - your ideas are lovely....thank you - Jennifer
ReplyDeleteHi Laura!
ReplyDeleteLove all your colors! (especially the red, though)
Love your Santa!
LOVE Your doll!
LOVE YOU!
Fifi
Miss Laura .... you are definitely on to something, using the blues and greens
ReplyDeletecouple of years ago, I put up a tree using sea glass and pearls, and it was such a calming beauty!
dear friend brought me a life-size baby Jesus, with eyelashes! from
Monteray Mexico - last year or two He is my only holiday decoration, and I change from an antique bread bowl to a basket to an antique doll bed for His manger - very freeing, very significant - more
so than doo-dads and tinsel! still love the decorating, tho'.....
trivia note: my fav bro was born 12/31/52, so everytime I check out your blog, it brings him to mind
all best during the holidays, and into the new year!

As usual - you pics are the best. I love it that you have used calm colors in this post. It helps this time of year.
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you,
Jo
Dear Laura,
ReplyDeleteI so love the Santa that Evi made for you! Maybe you have discovered on my blogpost that I just adore Santas!
Laura, thank you so much for your comment on my post of Belgian Castles!
xx
Greet
Hey, I have that blue vintage snowman and his pink girlfriend, too! Thanks for reminding me . . . for some reason, I haven't come across them yet this year.
ReplyDeleteHi Laura, I'm curious, what is transferware? It's beautiful, but I'm not familiar with the term. The downside to living in France for 15 years is I only know French technical terms for many things (even for rock climbing and seeing decorating didn't interest me in my early 20s...)
ReplyDeleteIn response to your colour question : I've done up the entrance in whites and pastel Lectoure Blue, then I spring the red festivity on you in the lounge and dining area... Red's a great colour for stimulating the appetite (not a favourite colour for my 'shrinking' jeans then ;-) and it's perfect, as you said, for chasing away the winter drearies!
I think your house must be the most beautiful and welcoming home for miles!
Ange xx
love the blues! especially the toille stockings and blue glass beads! and the green transferware !! i always love coming to your blog for vintage inspiration!!
ReplyDeletehappy holidays!
erin

Decorating for Christmas is an individual's expression of the things they love and hold dear.
ReplyDeleteTheme trees are nice but every year there is a different theme...
I love the vintage pieces from childhood but suspend them from the mantle and arches as I have two mischievous cats.
And you're off to Cathy's open house this weekend... you are so lucky she is one of my favourite artists.
Have fun and enjoy.
Susan
Can't wait to see you tommorrow. I recognise a few things from some of the last few posts I've missed.
ReplyDeleteI decided last week that I was going to add turquoise to the mix. Can't wait to get decorating at home this year!
xoxo,
Carole
I think your Santa is precious.
ReplyDeleteAs far as color for Christmas decorating, I am not much into blue. I like looking at it in other people's decor, but I'm more at ease with whites, silvers and creams. Last year I tried pinks and apple greens and this year it's all about the whites and silvers. Wonder what next year will bring?
Hi, I popped over here where somewhere...can't remember now but I just wanted to tell you how much I love your blog. I really like the blue beads and the old mica bird. Come for a visit sometime and happy holidays.
ReplyDeleteI just stumbled on your blog and I love it!!! I'm discovering (been new to the blogging world) that there are a lot of kindred spirits...or in other words...I'm not crazy with my obsessions! Keep up the good work!
