Flea Market in the Rain

It is peak leaf peeping season in the Adirondacks....the mountains are full of forests of golds and reds. This weekend, in my travels to the Warrensburg sale, I had hoped to take and be able to show you lots of beautiful autumn pictures...

Unfortunately, it rained the entire weekend and the fog and clouds obscured nature's beauty...

Our dock....looking out over the lake to the mountains beyond....(use your imagination!)

Maybe next weekend, when we drive north one last time to close our place up for the winter...
Maybe then the sun will shine?

Anyway, the rain did not keep Joanna and I from driving to Warrensburg and traipsing all over the town with our slickers on...

There was definitely more junk (and I mean uninteresting, landfill type junk) than treasures this time. Perhaps it was due to the weather and folks not wanting to ruin their wares in all the rain..
There were bargains to be had however and I did score a few....
...Those I will show you in tomorrow's post....
Here are a few shots of small items being sold out of buckets and boxes set out on the wet ground:

This dealer had a ton of crystals....

stoppers...

door knobs...

more crystals...

all sizes...

keys...

letters...

typewriter keys...

butter pats...old marbles...

old type...

sleigh bells...

white ironstone...

and of course, since we are in the Adirondacks...all kinds of snowshoes, back packs and skis...

Despite the weather, we had fun, as two girlfriends with acres of junk to look at will do....there was excitement in the form of a lost gas cap and low tires...
...a huge variety of street food....we avoided the blooming onion and fried dough...but couldn't resist the homemade chocolate chip cookies...

Thanks to all who left comments and information for me on my previous posts on the icons and other religious artifacts....
...wait till you see what I found in two cigar boxes!

Have a good evening!
:) Laura

  2. Glad you made it home safely, and hopefully you have completely dried out! Love the pics of the 'foggy lake'. I can still imagine sitting in an adirondak chair with a cozy throw and a warm cup of hot chocolate...Ahh! Well, back to reality...I'm in Florida, and no chance of changing foliage here, and the hot chocolate has been replaced by a cool glass of iced tea! I did post some pics today of fall colors I found in the garden...I can only imagine....

  3. Those pictures you took of your dock...look like they are pictures to infinity. Like, if you walked through, you could go to another dimension or another time. Interesting!

  9. Hi Laura. Was thinking of foregoing our flea out here near SF, but my daughter reminded me about there not being fleas once it rains (I went once...almost no-one showed up)...I'm glad I took advantage of the good weather. Miss those fall leaves photos...but the misty dock was beautiful. Trish

  21. Laura...these are some great finds! I just got back from Warrenton and found some great things and then had fun this weekend at another local fair...found some great vintage watches like you have on your sidebar. I want to wear them on my wrist, just like you have them pictured.

Beautiful pictures of lake! I like the fog, actually! Can't wait to see more pics!

  22. I love you and I don't want to not love you but I'm jealous!!! You were just where I'd want to be = MULTIBLE LAND!!!!! I have always wanted a double tub for my garden. I hope to go yard saling when I go to visit family in northern NJ this weekend - there's some cool antique places where they live. I decorated several areas of my yard this weekend with my funnels, metal buckets, wooden totes, old painted stools, pumpkins, a chicken crate. A friend just cut some corn stalks for me. Why is there never enough time???? J

  29. Laura, what a *delightful* blog! I just came upon it and have spent the past fifteen minutes poring through your treasures and posts. I grew up spending a few weeks every summer on Upper Saranac Lake, and so the pictures of the heavy fog settling in over the water filled me with nostalgia. I live in the desert now, where fog is a totally foreign concept!

Cheers, and hope to follow more posts in the futre. Have a great weekend! Oh, and I hope you post about those squash if you do indeed make them! I just posted about a fall treat today, too: malasa-spiced plum galettes- fall is my favorite time of year to cook.
