Bits and pieces of lace are wound around old wooden spools...they fill a glass jar that sits on the dresser in Kate's room (now a guest room) at the lake.
In one corner stands this antique wire dress form with a lace jabot at the neck....I love the contrast of the delicate creamy lace against the gray industrial look of the wire...
Here are some vintage pillowcases...some were family items...others collected..
Love the pretty lace edging...
I also love all the shades of white and ecru....which reminds me tomorrow is Wednesday and this post almost qualifies for White Wednesday...hosted by
Faded Charm...you may want to link and view other posts dedicated to all things white...
I wonder who they were....these patient souls who put so much time and effort into all this handmade lace edging...
What were their stories?
A small cream colored crocheted blanket...Don't you just love the texture... it feels so soft and cozy! I can imagine and almost feel the love...the care and perhaps even the anticipation of a baby to come...
Lace and ribbon on an old child's dress hanging from a hook in the room...Who was the little person that wore this dainty dress?
Pretty lacy effect of twisted and looped wire and tiny white beads on the top of this vintage look frame from Anthropologie...
...The old book of poems lays open to one that is an ode to the Mountains...(if you click on the picture you can read the poem)
Even the graphics on the cover have a lacy look to them....
What
is it about lace that we find so appealing? Besides the obvious feminine mystique that surrounds lace garments...I think the attraction must have something to do with the fact that, at least in my grandmother's day, its creation was often a labor of love...with a purpose and intent to create something beautiful...
Why do you love lace?

I love lace, too. Your post is so pretty - it makes me want to go and display some of my collection. Thank you for sharing! Hugs, Patti
Love all of these photos! People had so much more time to create back then. So many of those skills will be lost. At least people like us will collect and cherish them!
Warm Wishes,
Karen Eileen
Lace reminds me of my dear Mother. She loved lace collars, lace on a dress, lace scarves on her end tables. I cherish each piece that I have from her collection...thank you for the reminder..sharon

Love the lace and the way you've displayed the pieces. I have mine "displayed' in a 13 gallon trash bag in my shed, cause I don't know what to do with it all. So...spools? check...lace? check. borrowed idea from 52 flea? Got it!!! *elaine* ps I borrowed the cup & saucer sewing thingie too, and added my own twist. I'll post a pic soon. You have a great eye! *elaine*
beautiful post!
I too am a lover of lace. I try to incorporate some of it in every piece I create. I love it even more when it is a little discolored and a little tattered!
Ciao Laura! You've lots of treasures! I adore old trimmings and laces and you made stunning photos! No beach for me today...I've got a flu!
I hope to be ok tomorrow!
Warm hugs

Hello dear Laura - wonderful photos again! I love your lace-pictures (I think lace makes every woman feel lika a fay, like a princess, like a gracious dancer...) And I also love your poems-book! When I click at the picture, I not only can read the poem, I can smell the old paper! One day I will make an old-books-special for you, okay? Oh, and today I can tell you that I made it: I've finally installed the translater at my blog! Looking forward to your next visit! Love, Traude
These pictures are very attractive. A bed outside is a lever design decision
You're the owner of a very nice lace collection! I love the wooden spools on your first picture...

It is amazing to think of the time and love that went in to the making of your beautiful lace collection.
I am new to blogging and just discovered you.
I loved what I read today.
Please come and visit me
Till then.....Janice
I, like you think of the women who so patiently created these lovely works of art. There hand-work always inspires me. I love beauty in all of it's forms, but the works of women hands is just something special. We are caretaker's of these pretty creations, and I hope other generations are able to enjoy them as well.
Smiles,
June
Wonderful post Laura...it most definitely qualifies as a W.W. I think the reason us girls love lace is it just makes everything look good...draped over anything.
When we get married we wear lace....it's just so romantic! and makes us feel like a princess!
xo,
Carole
Oh beautiful white pieces. I love the dress form. The lace and crochet are so pretty too.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a Blessed Day,
Sherry

To me, lace is so versatile; it's strong (how do such tiny little threads hold together?) and delicate at the same time. Just a touch of it is enough to dress up a casual outfit!
Laura,
Your images and words are so lovely. The postings on the Adirondacks are especially touching; so similar to my summers in the Finger Lakes. I will follow you with interest and joy,
Marjorie
Lovely post. I feel the same way when I look at lace~~wondering where they found the time as they worked so hard at everything back then... Thank goodness they found the time, as we are able to enjoy it now.
Blessings,
Shelley
Beautiful...I love it because it is soo feminine. And soft. But enduring.

I love lace for the messages it brings from the past...especially the old lace I have from my maternal grandmother I never met her as she died of tuberculosis when my mother was 9 months old. It keeps me closer to her and to my heritage. Something to pass on to my own daughter.
Thank you for such a beautiful post. I love lace because each piece seems to have a story to tell.

I love lace, and the remnants wound around old spools are lovely. I want to grab my camera and take some pics of my lacy goodies.
