Chop Chop
While at the lake house this week....I have been cleaning up and cleaning out...
I thought you might enjoy looking at some of the collections stashed here....
Back in the 70's when Rob and I were selling collectibles and things at shows...I was a big collector of kitchen ware.....having been a Home Economics major in college....it was an interest of mine....cooking...baking....etc.....
These are just a few of the different choppers we collected.....it is amazing how many different shapes and sizes were produced.....and of course...some were hand made.
Wonderful wooden handles....
Warm and comforting, I find these old utilitarian things.....it is fun to picture the people and their homes who may have once used these old items to fix their family's dinners....
I am writing this post from the local library which has limited hours so I will be catching up on reading all my favorite blogs next week....
In the meantime....I hope you all have a wonderful week....
Think I will chop up a few vegetables for dinner....I'm in the mood.....
Happy Days! Vacation fun.....family fun and lots of good food!
Be well, Laura
Nice in their simplicity, yet with their grays, they almost look industrial! Reminds me of an opportunity I had to buy several old choppers for cheap and I didn't. I regretted it, but I've more than made up for it in buying other things! Thanks for sharing these pictures.
ReplyDeleteSo cool--I just inherited a bunch of my grandfather's pastry and pasta-making supplies and equipment which go way back to about 1945.
ReplyDeleteAgain, your photos are fantastic, as is you subject matter. Love this post, with it's old tools.
ReplyDeleteThose are incredible, especially the worn handles. We have a not dissimilar modern herb chopper which I bought as a present for my husband on 9/11 - in the shop we had all been listening to the news as it came in and I was in tears. Chopping herbs often brings this back to me - perhaps it's good to have a reason to remember. Sorry for that strange conncection!
ReplyDeleteOH GREAT & I COLLECT CHOPPERS :) GIO
ReplyDeleteThe handles are well loved and worn. Happy vacationing!

Oh! I love your collection of cooking items! I have a few of my Mom's "tools" and love them! Smooth wood and nice weight. I also have those old trivets that used to hang in many kitchens-so heavvvy! Your photos are beautiful.

What a great collection!! Does this make you a "demilunatic"??? Couldn't resist...I'll blame the margarita...
ReplyDeleteIm such a vintage kitchen freak particularly the reds & greens that wore down & got such great patina. One day I'll find a way to display all my utensils, etc.
And by the way..I'm a full lunatic :)
Laura -- they are wonderful! While I don't collect choppers, I taught home ec. at middle school for a few years and it was a fun excuse for collecting vintage kitchen items.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing!
What a wonderful collection of old kitchen tools! They're so lovely! Enjoy your holidays!
