Rust

I confess.....I like rust.

This tiny green table and chairs came from Paula.....she knew I would appreciate its charm, its diminutive size and the glorious rust making its mark...defining its age....

This old yellow stool has been resting and rusting gently next to the shed for a year now....

Bambi is rusty colored if nothing else....

Brother Bob has a rust sculpture growing in the back 40 behind the secret garden.....

I know, its a bit weird....
I thought..... well, I hoped....that we knew each other well enough at this point to reveal this part of me......to share this much.....
Can we still be friends?

  2. Hi Laura,
Of course, we can still be friends! I love rust too. There's just something about that worn, rusty look of a time worn object. Recently June over at Laughing at Angels did a post on rust too and it made me think of how many objects I have that are rusty. I love the little table and chairs you've shown, it's gorgeous with the little bird's nest wire contraption (don't know what to call it but I have one too but haven't figured out how to show case it). Thanks for revealing your rust secret. Happy night!

  3. YES! Rust can be a great thing! A couple of weeks ago I was at a thrift store and found a rusty pink desk lamp. Since it was without a tag, I asked my daughter to go see how much it was. The lady said, "That old thing? I can't see why you'd want it." Lala said, "Oh my mom will paint it." She then told her $1. When Lala told me, I said, "NOOOOO you can't cover that beautiful rust!" The lamp is now in my kitchen.

Rust can be a marvelous thing!

  4. But of course! To me it's kind of like dust and spider webs, it all needs a home some place. so why not my home? Rust gives things character, I think. I love the little table and chairs the best!

  17. It looks lovely! My only thing, stemming from a childhood memory, I think, is that I don't like SITTING on rust. I think my grandma had one too many rusty garden chairs that scratched my little legs and left marks on my shorts. Other than that, I'm all for rust, too!

Btw, just found your lovely blog. I was reading your profile and that's exactly how I feel at the moment. I would like to change tack and do something creative that I'm good at and get out of the rat race too.

  26. Oh yes we can be friends! I love old rusty garden tools. I hang them up for garden art! I have even been accused of leaving things out in the rain so they will rust faster. Imagine that. LOL Sharon

  28. I like to say that in our world, rust is a commodity to be traded just as gold is in the real world (and just as expensive!)

  30. You are not alone in your love of rust...... I had a customer that bought an old rusty push mower from me ...... as yard art..... she drove up in her Lexis and threw that thing on the leather seats..... like it was made of gold....lol
