One Photo - TAG
I was recently "tagged" by Vicky of Room Service ~ Decorating 101......the idea of the game is to post one photo that depicts your "true style". Well, I had a lot of trouble with this.....commitment issues....there are so many different styles of decorating that I am attracted to......but when I saw the picture above in the May/June Issue #56 of The English Home magazine, I knew this was the one.........Here are my reasons.....first of all ....the element of surprise....I love that in home decor!....love to mix things up and include the unexpected.....second...the water...this picture reminds me of being up at our lake house in the mountains....it is calm and peaceful....casual and relaxed......third....nature...I love to bring the outdoors in with all different elements of nature incorporated in my decor and fourth....it is soft and feminine with the blousy floral upholstery....so that is me. What do you think?
The book above is put out by Jeanne D'Arc Living.....It is filled with the most beautiful images...I was able to purchase it through Raised in Cotton about four months ago...(not sure that it is still available there)...Jeanne D'Arc Living also produces the magazine that many of us have become enamored of.....My Danish friends will laugh at me because I do not understand any of the written word but the pictures all speak for themselves.
This picture is from Jeanne D'Arc Living magazine and it was the main contender for my "true style" picture until I saw the photo with the armchair in the boat on the water......This kitchen speaks to my love of white and light.....natural stone, wire and metals...it has a slight industrial look in a few of the accessories which provides interest and contrast with the older items....I love the zinc and pewter molds, the basket, plants, glassware and wire cages .....Since my first collecting days (back in the 70's) revolved around kitchen ware.....and my undergrad degree was in Home Economics (which isn't even a college major these days).....and since I used to be a pretty good cook....I love kitchens and both new and vintage utilitarian items.
I hope you don't mind my stretching things by posting my first runner-up in picture selection...but I thought you might enjoy this photo.....so whose next? What's your "true style"? Can you show it with just one photo?
P.S. Thanks for everyone's comments on yesterday's post and my "create your own give-back".....remember you have until 6pm on Monday, May 11th to enter! A link to the post on your blog will give you a second entry into the hat! If you are the lucky winner of my very first give-away....I promise to dig deep into my piles of vintage treasure and stashes of goodies and do my best to find something that will make you happy!
Hi Laura,
ReplyDeleteLove your choice of true style photos (both of them). I just showed my husband the kitchen photo a couple weeks ago and I loved that we both agreed it was perfect, not fussy but very beautiful. I really want that book and am on a mission to find it. I did go to the Jeanne d'Arc site but I've got to order at least 10.... hmmm... thinking.
Have a wonderful evening, that boat reminds me of Monet's garden in Giverny.

Hi Laura,
ReplyDeleteI came over from Tracie's and I'm so glad I made the trip. It's just lovely here. I saw this photo the magazine also and I too fell in love with it. Your second pick is divine also.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations with being tagged, you found a great picture to show us your true style.
ReplyDeleteAnd the book you're talking about.. I do have it!And all times I "read" in it, I see other details I like!! I also have the other part, with beautifull outdoor photo's. Have you already seen that book? About tagged, I thought you have to tagg someone now.. Greetings, Corine
These are both lovely photos, but your first choice is truly fantastic - so quirky! I agree that a bit of fun, a bit of the unexpected, is great when decorating. I've already taken up this challenge from another site, and my answer to it is posted here: http://trocbroc.blogspot.com/2009/05/i-love-challenge.html
ReplyDeleteI love it I love it.....especially the first.
ReplyDeleteIt could be mine......The chair stands for comfort, the roses for a lucky feeling and all of that in combination with nature.......
Oh you made my day, thanks
Love your style, Laura. You definitely have a sense of humour. I would love to get myself a copy of that book, but I'm thinking it's not so easy, is it?

Laura, your photo could be my runner up. I love it and it speaks loud and clear of your style. love it, love it , love it. Thanks for linking back to me and lover 32...she was a poster from rms that posted her living room about 30 times a week. It became a big joke, I felt sorry for her, but you know me... I love to laugh.

Thanks for the sweet comments at the Yaya! And here is wishing you a loving and beautiful weekend! xo...deb
Love both images too. But you know I'm partial to the second one. Big shock right? I have a tenancy to like toooo many styles so I admire people who can stick to one....how do they do it????
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting a smile on my face. You are so creative.
ReplyDeleteHi Laura, What a treat to find you! Love your wire cloche and your style! My favorite photo that would depict my true style is a chandelier hanging in a vintage milk truck in a fountain!
ReplyDeleteI'll have the third issue of Jeanne d'Arc late May if your looking for it.
