When the violets finally appear......we will know spring is here. For now that promise is buried beneath the snow and so I must be content with the silk, paper, flocked and sugared violets I have on hand. The tiny doll's purse in luscious purple is just large enough to hold a penny. The paper container for soaps......"Violettes de Toulouse" was brought back from the Paris Marche' aux Puces, ( flea market) at Clignancourt where I traveled with my husband, Lynn and Steve ten years ago. We were in Paris celebrating our anniversaries and it was the most romantic week ever. The silver plate tray is pitted and marred but the detail is lovely and the inscription....."To Mr. & Mrs Brashear......14/11/98".....(November 14, 1898...) conjures up visions of a turn of the century wedding. I should have taken a photo of the back "15...071..... Boston Silver Co, 4 plates..."hard white metal"....hmmm...1898 was the same year my Nana was born.....I wonder who the Brashears were.....and if their marriage was long and happy......???

So Pretty....the color purple always makes me think of Spring. Also makes me think of that poem "When I am old I will where PURPLE" Great color at any age.
A lovely post...I am very partial to violets and I collect almost anything vintage to do with them! This old perfume box is gorgeous! An ambition of mine is to visit Toulouse where violets are grown commercially in France...one day... Your blog is beautiful and I shall now follow your stories...
Grateful and content...
...life long collector of objects with history and soul; discovering my creative self and sharing bits and pieces along the way...
To live content with small means.... To seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion.... To be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich.... To study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly.... To listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart.... To bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never.... In a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common.... ...........this is to be my symphony.
Thank you to all the kindred spirits and kind souls who take the time to leave a comment......Your support and encouragement are deeply appreciated.....I read each and every message and as time allows, do my best to reply.
