This herbarium was given to me by a close family friend......it is a collection of preserved plant specimens......various herbs and wildflowers....every page is filled.....although it appears as if some have been cut out of the book....probably for framing. I am guessing that this book was worked on by Miss Lydia Woodward sometime in the late 1800's. I have two other herbariums that I purchased on Ebay which are not in good condition and I plan to take apart and frame the best specimens. This one will remain just as it is. Isn't it amazing that these botanicals have survived all this time?
WOW your soooo lucky! I'd love a book like that. It is amazing they have held up this long. No central air or dehumidifiers like we have now. I was especially impressed with the vividness of the blue flowers. Not sure what it is? Any guesses out there?
Grateful and content...
...life long collector of objects with history and soul; discovering my creative self and sharing bits and pieces along the way...
To live content with small means.... To seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion.... To be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich.... To study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly.... To listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart.... To bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never.... In a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common.... ...........this is to be my symphony.
Thank you to all the kindred spirits and kind souls who take the time to leave a comment......Your support and encouragement are deeply appreciated.....I read each and every message and as time allows, do my best to reply.
