The Package

Go Confidently In The Direction Of Your Dreams...

By far, the very best thing about blogging is meeting kindred spirits...
...lovely people from all over the world who share your passions, your visions, your way of looking at things and the world we live in.

The really special thing about meeting people this way is that it is an opportunity to get to know individuals who normally would not cross your path...perhaps because of an age difference or for socio economic reasons or simply geographic factors.

In any case, I became friends with Ange of Signed by Ange...when she found my blog and commented... asking about the poem "My Symphony" which is on my sidebar. She was asking permission to use part of it as she is an artist and a calligrapher. Of course, the poem does not belong to me...it was written by William Henry Channing...
...but I was appreciative of her asking and of leaving a kind comment.

Over the course of the last year Ange and I have had many conversations that have revealed the incredible depth of her spirit, her compassion, her unfailing optimistic outlook, a brilliant wit and a fearless determination to make a difference in this world.

Sometime in May, Ange wrote to say that she had been browsing through the French brocante and saw something that made her think of me...
She said she was going to work on it and then she would send it to me.

First of all...
Can you imagine what this feels like?
That this special girl...all the way over in the south of France was poking about a flea market and thought of little old me?
She wanted to send me something simply because she felt that she had been supported by my words and she appreciated our friendship...

Well, her package arrived and was filled with bits of French papers,
her own calligraphy and painting...a darling little pottery shoe...
...a sweet heart

Words of encouragement and prayers for my Mom and my family...

...and this...

An old architectural piece...a wonderful wooden shield...
which she painted in shades she knew I would love...
Blue is a favorite we share.

I don't know what the letters originally stood for but to me the L.A
will always represent a special friendship between Laura and Ange.

If you are already a friend of Ange or are familiar with her beautiful artwork and calligraphy you will know what I am talking about.
If not, I encourage you to visit her website here...
and her blog here...

Ange is a woman of conviction and action.
I would keep my eye on her...
...she is about to make her mark on this world...
...and a beautiful mark it will be...

Thank you Ange!
:)

  5. What a very touching and heart felt post Laura. Call this a coincidence but how strange it was that Ange had asked you if she could use your poem (in your sidebar) in her art work and I had suggested that you write a poem in calligraphy around you 'found' mirror frame. I think some things are just meant to be.
    Have a beautiful Sunday! Anji

  14. Lauren...I know....so far away, yet because of this crazy world of technology, you've met a kindred spirit. Perhaps this ever-growing-smaller world of ours will someday be a much better place because we can now make connections like this with others of like minds.
This was a sweet, lovely meeting for you - a chance in millions.
    Blessings,

  20. Laura,

I agree with you totally. There is something so special about the blog world. I love your words and pictures, telling us so artfully about a very special person and a very special friendship.

My family (Jud and daughter, Kat) understand about the specialness of my blogging friendships. My seven close women friends (the Committee of Mothers who all live in my neighborhood) do not understand at all and consider it a little "dangerous."

I became very ill about twelve years ago (three pulmonary emboli) and ended up with a generalized pain disorder. I have a lot of time that I am confined to bed or home, though less than it used to be. The second year of my illness, my husband gave me a laptop. I met a lot of people but had a special friend, KarenAnne, who lived in England. She was bright, witty and shared a love of the same books, poems and music. I just adored her and the friendship was very real, with a few spats here and there, but mostly the beauty of shared lives. She was also sick. She had a kidney transplant and was dying from the side effects of the transplant medication. She lived for five years and as she was dying, her husband kept in touch with me through email. After she died, I got a package of things she had left for me. I treasure those things always.

I kept all of her email sand planned (as we had planned) to write a book of our friendship. One day, my computer crashed and all the emails were gone and could not be retrieved. I finally just looked upon it as a message from the universe...there was to be no book.
The gift was the time we had.

So...forgive me for babbling on. These friendships are very real and very important to me. They remind me of penpals from days gone by. I have met approximately twenty of the people I know from the internet and, to the person, they are just who they are on the internet. This is a real world!

So hugs to you, sweet person, and thank you for your lovely blog,
    Suz

  25. Ohhhh, this story really touched my heart...
And I agree with you. Since I entered this magic world called Blogglandia I have met so many beautiful souls and kind people. Sometimes it´s like the warmth and the kindness radiates out from the words that are written. I must say that it surprised me at first. But I have already met some of my best friends this way.
Well, now I´m going to visit your friends blog and read more....
Take care, and I will send some love and light to your mother again.
