Old Time Favorites
The pretty pink peony blooming in our back yard...
I was so excited when I sat down with my new issue of Jeanne d'Arc Living magazine...
Two of my favorite things....peonies and enamelware are included in this issue.

I have been collecting vintage enamelware for decades!
In fact, if you have been following along for a while...
...you would know that I have been collecting a lot of things for a long time...
...poor Mr. Flea.
In any case, it has been gratifying to see some of my favorite old treasures recently become popular decorative items...
I don't even have to leave my home or go shopping anywhere other than my attic, shed or basement to get the look!
...which is good given my employment status at the moment!

Another thing I noticed with this issue of JDL is that there is a little more color...
...especially blue!

All the light streaming in and the pale blue cupboard in this picture....mmm... so pretty!

...and then this photo with the touches of red...
...it is just so cheerful!

...lastly...this totally feminine, ethereal looking pillow on top of the rough linen upholstered chair.
LOVE it!
Moving on to a quick stop at Anthropologie the other day....
...aren't these pocket pillows adorned with buttons charming?
This was a linen covered jewelry display board with more pockets...
...too cute!
...and finally...
a question for you...
Is yellow-ware ever going to come back in?
I have a huge collection packed away and just recently I pulled a few little pieces out...
...I think I'm liking it again!
:)
Oh, this is all so beautiful. The only piece of enamelware I have is an old (but very lovely) bucket! I wish I could get my hands on a copy of Jeanne d'Arc...and you are so fortunate to live near Anthropologie. Such inspiration! Love those pillows. I know what I'm going to make this weekend! And the yellow-ware is just wonderful! Keep it! Display it! Jamie V in MT
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely post. One of the booth owners in our shop had an enamel water pitcher. I stopped by today to buy it and it was gone!!!! Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! The enamel ware shown in the photo looks so lovely.
ReplyDeleteThose Anthro pillows are so pretty.
hugs
Sissie
Not sure which of those pictures I like the best!!! The blues look like you, but so does the red accent picture. My peonies are about 6 inches tall...we've had no sun. I've always gone on the theory that what I like is what is in style for me at any given time. Bring out the yellowware and display away.

I just love that magazine....all their photos look so wonderful, soft and dreamy.....pretty!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your yellow ware....I bet you can make a gorgeous display with your collection.
Hugs,
Margaret B
You seem to be ahead of the game and that is a good thing. I love old and rustic...I guess they are calling it primitive now...is that true? Love your Anthro pillow, always such neat ideas!

I love the look of the enamelware and the blue influence is amazing! Softens and yet makes it pop!
ReplyDeletePeonies, enamelware....both of which I also have a lot of and love a lot.
ReplyDeletePlush pocketed pillows, buttons, blues, reds...also fill my home ...
My dreams are still wishing for yellow ware so PLEASE, show us more...
What a calming entry...thank you for the bright light shining in the window of the day.
Blessya
I've been seeing the Navy blue with mostly whites, too, but that could just be a summer holiday thing, but I liked it. Serene photos...I like your yelloware, very sturdy, useful...I imagine those dishes are like the folks that used them, strong character.

I think you should bring it all out again. I love it! And every pillow you posted is dreamy. ~Mindy
ReplyDeleteLove those pocketed, buttoned up pillows...too cute! Was yellow ware out? Someone forgot to tell me...I've been collecting it for years, and still love the color and the utilitarian beauty, especially the big old mixing bowls. *elaine*
ReplyDeleteHola Laura, my very favorite thing is enamelware too!! and roses!!! I have a big collection of enamelware, mainly with flowers, very beautiful ones... and recently have opened a little online shop where I will sell mostly enamelware... I think you woul like them.
ReplyDeleteI wish we could have JDL magazine over here in chile, would be a must for many of us!!!
Greetings from Chile,

Lovely collections and photos, Laura! Great eye candy...and I love the yellowware!
ReplyDeleteHI Laura
ReplyDeleteWell enamelware is so strong in my memories of childhood.. simple kitchenware... and then also with camping...
The enamelware here is very expensive.. sadly.. especially if one wants white.. but it was the depression era green and cream colours that were in abundance all those years back... Love all the images and now am addicted to Jeanne D'arc.. will have to get the latest copy...
Have a great weekend.. xxx Julie
The flower pillow on the rough chair is wonderful. We have more of a utility type enamelware collection pans and buckets that I use all the time.
ReplyDeleteLove the peonies...I have a few bushes in my yard. Blue is my kitchen color and enamelware is always lovely. Treasures make the circle just like clothes. Oops..I'm not that old!
ReplyDeleteWarmly,
Deb :)
Dear Laura,
ReplyDeleteI also have the latest copy of JDL and was SO suprised to see RED !!!! I wouldn't be suprised if they have had hate mail !!!! haha.
It is such a refreshing change to see just a little bit of colour. I rather like the added interest.
Hope you have a lovely weekend, Laura. XXXX
Hej Hej
ReplyDeleteLoving your blog, just recently discovered it!
I too have the recent copy of JDL but mine is in Norwegain/Danish/Svenska...must be lovely to read it in English.
Enamel is my favourite too!
I have never heard of or seen Yellow-Ware, is it something particular to the USA?
I am a great believer in, if you LOVE something then have it out on show, cherish it, it doesn't matter whether it's IN or OUT...as long as you like it OR love it that's all that matters and it's great to be Free and have your own unique style.
You never no, it could be you that makes it IN! lol!
Have a great weekend
LOVE, PEACE, enJOY!

ReplyDeleteLove,
Susan and Bentley
xxoo
I collect tons of things too and it's so much fun when they become the "in" thing. I tend to rotate things in and out of my displays according to the time of year or what mood I'm in. Your yelloware is gorgeous~it would look awesome as part of a fall display.
ReplyDeleteSounds like I want to come "shop" in your attic and basement! hehe! I'm glad to see the hint of blue coming in. It is my "now" favorite.
ReplyDeletekaren
I would love to get a copy! Where did you get yours, all the pictures look lovely!
ReplyDeleteI HEART your photos! I too have several pieces of antique enamel ware that I'm in love with. I ADORE your cup that has the numbers on it! ooops just realized that was in JDL but I still love that cup!
