Numbers

I'm one of those people for whom numbers have always held an attraction...
...numbers and letters...
I love calligraphy....I have always liked to doodle and write out the alphabet and all the digits....
... I like to look at them and their swirly shapes....

...strangely, however... Math has never been my subject...

This white platter with dark blue and gold decoration came from the Anthropologie sale table...
...it has a great number! :)

These silver napkin rings came from Pottery Barn...not on the sale table...

...but irresistible...

Love my watch faces...love those digits and Roman numerals...

...have lots of these old brass stencils in several sizes...both numbers and letters...

Digits...
have come into their own...

This is the latest issue of Jeanne D'Arc Living magazine...
It arrived yesterday and I just love this issue. They have proclaimed 2010 as the year of the digit. I think for many of us....2009 was a big year for numbers too.

A few images from their gorgeous pages...

Aren't those photographs wonderful? Such beautiful arrangements...

The above collage I have shown before...it is from Artifacts in upstate NY...

These wonderful large old wooden number stamps came from Gather in Ivoryton, CT.
Paula bought the numbers 5 and 2 for me as a gift...

When we visited Deanna at her shop Gather at Christmastime....
...I bought the rest of the set!
There are other wooden stamp sets in different sizes that I have been lucky enough to find and add to my collection over the years...
...it is so fun to use these vintage stamps...

I'm not into Numerology but I sure do like numbers and letters and the beautiful graphics of these vintage items...

The price of the Jeanne D'Arc Living magazine has gone up and I did not plan on purchasing it...but when I saw this article on digits as well as the one on clockfaces...I am so glad I decided to splurge!
I have purchased different issues of this beautiful magazine from Tracey at French Larkspur, from Ruth at The Beautiful Life, from Carol at Raised in Cotton and from Carole at Maynard Greenhouse...
All of these wonderful shops are chock a block full of delightful items and these gals all provide the best possible service and take the time to beautifully wrap your purchases.
You can check with them for availability...

Speaking of numbers....tomorrow is an important date as it is our wedding anniversary....
...are you ready?
36.....

I was a child bride, truly I was!!
:)

  3. I am loving all of the numbers, Laura. I used to love calligraphy when I was at school and we all used to try and make our writing more ornate than our friends. My writing has stayed like it and I am always asked to do everyones wedding invitations and place cards.
Am loving the clock faces too.
I must get the new copy of the Jeanne d'Arc magazine. I managed to get the Christmas issue and adored every page. It is really expensive for a magazine but it's worth it. XXXX

  9. Dear Laura
I can't tell you how much I love this post... Letters and numbers are dear to me also. I actually loved maths at school!! It was my favourite subject... my nieces and nephew think I am strange as I love maths.. hahaha... I also have my favourite numbers which I am sure is strange...

That blue & white platter is so superb, can we fight over this one too... perhaps not as it is already yours.. haha Another love in this collection is those brass templates which aren't to be found here...I may have to start searching over your way for them...

Thanks for the lovely post and the glimpses of Jeanne d'arc... another thing not to be found here!! OH and more importantly Happy Anniversary to you and Mr 52.... maybe all your days be filled with joy and promise!! xxx Julie

  18. Beautiful photographs, and I can certainly understand your fascination with those gorgeous old numbers and letters. The old French bingo card is great. I was lucky enough to find a whole bunch of them at a vide greniers in France last year and had a jolly good fondle of them yesterday, lol.
