Corn on the Cob

Last night there were 16 of us ... we had a cookout which included the most delicious corn on the cob....don't you just love August when the tomatoes are so red and ripe, the peaches are in season and the corn is to die for?

This is a set of old dishes from Italy that include a serving platter, small individual plates, a salt and pepper and butter pitcher....all with a realistic corn motif....

It is raining today and Mother Nature seems to be saying....time to go home Laura...your week is over....back to the office tomorrow...

I hate to go....it has been so relaxing and so much fun with family coming and going all week..Here is a picture of our lake house in the 1930's.....that is my mother standing with my grandparents....The house looks different now...we have added a kitchen and bathroom to the back and a dormer upstairs...The place is in dire need of a coat of paint so I will wait until that job is accomplished before I show an updated picture....

Before I leave....does anyone want the last cherry?
Hope the week ahead is full of all good things....
:) Laura

  8. The last cherry! Ahh!

Laura, you will not believe that our fields are full of corn but we never get to eat any of it! Round here it is seen as animal feed (harvested when dry) and only the modern city people would think of eating it.

Out here in the country it's a nasty thought, eating chickenfeed, and we just can't buy it from the farmers. You can get vaccum packed corn on the cob imported from South American in the organic shops, and not much more...

  9. I was just reading Floss' comment. Isn't it funny that Europeans don't really eat corn. I can remember my parents saying the same thing. But they ate corn here and loved it. I think they just must grow more cow corn as they call it.
Anyways have a good day at the office tomorrow and yes I'd love the last cherry....I wouldn't want to waste it!!!!

  15. That corn looks really good. I love corn-on-the-cob, though I do hate undressing it. Did you grow it in your garden or get it at the Farmer's Market? Your cabin sounds just lovely. It's nice you've enjoyed your time there.
