The Odd Item Finds a Home at the Lake House

The lake house has proved to be the perfect place for the overflow of my collections......

And lends itself beautifully to all things to do with nature.....

There always seems to be something tucked into my pocket...We have brought back sea shells, stones, twigs, bits and bobs from all sorts of places we have traveled to....in spite of being warned about the wrath of gods and seemingly ridiculous laws....

This poor delicate butterfly was found in this comatose state.....it lives on now under this cheese dome turned cloche .....my littlest visitors marvel at this specimen!

Don't you love wire ware? This is one of three little wire baskets...they are hooked together and hang from the porch ceiling...it holds tiny old French clay pots and new herb markers.....

I have a thing for architectural pieces....in this case...porch balusters...don't they look neat stacked on their sides with chippy white paint?

Interesting books, books and more books.....old brass pins....

Fungi with a bit of bling... an old metal stamping....

Look at this wonderful old book, titled...Seaside and Wayside and dated 1899...

"So he wandered away and away,
With Nature, that dear old nurse,
Who Sang to him, night and day,
The Songs of the Universe"
Longfellow

Scattered about are many found bird nests....this one in a little old spice tin.....

Some pretty vintage trim.....lots and lots of sewing notions tucked in old baskets and boxes around here...

If you enjoy these types of images...stop back again as there are years of collected treasure from nature and the great outdoors as well as from yard sales and flea markets filling the nooks and crannies of this place. The corners of our lake house are filled with reminders of our hikes and travels and never ending treasure hunting....

  4. so so lovely. i loved seeing the porch balusters. i bought 4 chipped aqua ones last summmer and they were just bound in the center by loosely tied cheesecloth. i love them just like that and have them on the radiator in my "girlie office."

how wonderful to have a lake house. my town has a beautiful pond and during summers my house begins to feel like a lake house, all breezy and casual.

    beautiful post!
