Creamy Whites



Bits and pieces of creamy white lace, old documents, letters and tin hearts...



...and a ruffled white petticoat satisfies my romantic and feminine side...

Dan and Friends at Lake



We arrived at the lake house late Friday night... Dan and his friends all the way from Buffalo...we were all exhausted after a grueling 4 to 5 hour trip in the pouring rain and fog....and went straight to bed....
It continued to rain all night long.....and all day long on Saturday....



It was a stay indoors day...
Michele worked on a puzzle while the rest of them played a marathon trivial pursuit game...



The rain let up once or twice....



But for the most part....it was a miserable day outside....fun and games inside...



Sunday, however, the sun shone! After breakfast...the "kids" took off in the boat to go water skiing and wake boarding....There they are in the boat....by the time I got to the dock to snap a picture...they had taken off down the lake...



I got them to pose for a picture just before their trip back to school....with a quick detour at The King of the Frosties for ice cream cones....they were off....

Law students, dental student and nutritionist in the making...it was great fun for us and for my parents to have these smart, articulate and fun loving young people at the lake for the weekend!

Weekend Plans



We'll be enjoying the company of son Dan, some of his fellow law students and a few other good friends at the lake house this weekend....We're looking forward to having a house full of bright, interesting and fun filled students....



The thing about the lake house is .... we spend a lot of time in the kitchen....preparing meals and washing dishes....no dishwasher!



But I love it! I love having all these happy, relaxed young people around and contributing to their good time with food and lots of it!



Entertaining up here is still a lot easier then when my great grandmother was the hostess back in the 1930's and 40's....at least we don't have to pump our water and the bathrooms are inside!



Besides... I have lots of my kitchen collectibles up here and get a chance to play and use both my old and new dishes... like these pretty green and white ones from le Comptoire de Famille



...I'm sure I'll have lots of help this weekend...My Mom has already made brownies, a chocolate pie and her famous bark...



Actually this group will be easy....they are all twenty something and totally self sufficient...quick to lend a helping hand... affording me plenty of time for a little R & R of my own!

A Moment in Time



Besides old tintypes and cabinet cards... collecting old photographs, looking for them at yard sales, flea markets, etc. has been a habit of mine for many years...For some reason, I feel as if I am "rescuing" these old discarded images or even the remnants of someone's life and story when I take them home with me....
Recently my sister Lynn generously spent her time and scanned dozens of old family photographs so that all my siblings could share and each have copies of these treasured momentos of our family....I couldn't bear to think of them discarded one day...



While sifting through some old collected photos this weekend....I came upon this picture of a young boy and a gentleman, who I am imagining, is the boy's grandfather....



It sure looks to me as if they are thoroughly enjoying each others company and sharing a loving chuckle over the little boy's modeling of grandpa's hat.

I love the way their hands look and the little fellow's coveralls and grandpa's suspenders....Although not related to me, these two souls warm my heart with their sweetness and their obvious pleasure in sharing a simple moment in time...

It reminds me of my own grandfathers who so loved us and enjoyed us when we were little...

TheTreasure Trove by the Red Barn



Tonight's post is to compliment Carole's posting on the barn with all the old architectural pieces that we passed on our trip through the middle of New York state's beautiful countryside....



She showed you some marvelous closeups of all the spindles and shutters, doors and windows that are piled up alongside this old red barn...



I thought you might like to see a wider shot and just how much stuff there really is leaning up against this big old barn...



It is a veritable treasure trove of old windows and doors...

I have a few more pictures of Carole taking her close up shots in this setting....but we're both a bit camera shy and have an "agreement" so I left those out (even though she looked so darn cute in her straw hat!)...

Lately, I have noticed that my heartfelt expression or kind words are sometimes received just when a person most needs them...and when that occurs and I happen to learn about it... I am surprised and always so grateful that I took the time.

My mother was so wise when she told us to always be kind.

Nature's Words



The day before the girls came to begin our antiquing adventure, there was a craft show in our little Adirondack town. A couple by the name of Henry and Theresa Sitko had a wonderful booth where they showcased their unique photographs of letters formed and found in nature. They frame their photographs in simple glass frames and then use them to create words...



Their customers can choose from a variety of letters to form their own unique words or sayings...



This is Henry with some of their creations....I did not get to meet Theresa but after reading about her and Henry on their website....I feel as if I know and like them both. This was my favorite....Grace was my Nana's name and is daughter Kate's middle name...



There are a variety of different photographs that form each letter...



... so you can pick and choose which combination works best for your word...
I enjoyed visiting this booth and thought the entire concept was fun and unique. I just can't decide what word I want!



There were other attractive booths with the crafts and creations of talented people...



Adirondack furniture...



As I walked down the aisle of craft booths I caught a glimpse of this wonderful skirt as this lovely lady moved behind her table setting up her jewelry booth.....I asked her if she would mind if I took her picture...she very graciously allowed me to do so. From tip to toe this is one stylish lady! I just loved all the detail! It is romantic and artistic....it's so me.....now if only I had her figure...
I was a tad embarrassed that I had imposed myself on her and been so bold as to ask to take her picture....she was busy putting the finishing touch on her booth....which I am sad to say I only glanced at. I think that she is wearing a necklace of the type she was selling....Lovely, like everything else about her!
