Last September Paula, Carole and I set off for Brimfield with our sunscreen, totes and carts....ready to find our kind of treasure at the infamous flea market. We were not disappointed! From dress forms to wire ware to bottles and boxes, paper dolls and old letters, old linens, vintage photos and incredible architectural pieces......It was all there to be discovered! The sun was shining, the street food was satisfying, the "amenities" were satisfactory and matched the color of the sky......Tired but happy we considered it a successful day! Back at Paula's we relaxed in her late summer gardens.....I'm looking forward to doing it all again!
The warm tones in these baskets and wooden ware say home to me. The top pictures are several French bread baskets and a board...the round American BREAD board's letters are worn down....the butter molds are from the USA as well.
Yes, that's what I should be doing today.....laundry and cleaning. Well, I am cleaning a little because in order to take pictures I need to blow the dust off first! The blue bloomers were bought for me by my Mom years ago at a flea market. She most likely didn't understand my attraction but in her loving and generous way....wanted me to have whatever it was that tickled my fancy!
Rag balls were made with strips of cloth wound round and round........Here is Evi's basket full of pastel beauties. The others are really old ones that were found at Brimfield......wonderful early fabrics......true blues!
The egg has long been a symbol of immortality and fertility.......... It is also a sure sign of spring....two or three cradled in their nest tucked in the forsythia bush outside my kitchen window................................The shape of the egg is pleasing to the eye, the feel....so smooth and easy to hold in the palm of your hand.....yet so fragile....and when cooked to your liking.....delicious! My sister MaryBeth always liked hers poached on toast....my Dad likes them anyway Mom cooks them, my sister Lynn doesn't like them at all and I like mine in an omelet or a quiche with lots of mushrooms and cheese!
If you want to have an especially lovely afternoon.....visit a special girlfriend...on a beautiful summer day...... who happens to have incredible gardens.....Sit and chat for a while.....let her spoil you with a lovely lunch under the blue sky...... and then take a long nap in a calm and pretty bedroom! Doesn't that sound dreamy? Breathe deeply....winter will be over soon.
To live content with small means.... To seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion.... To be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich.... To study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly.... To listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart.... To bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never.... In a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common.... ...........this is to be my symphony.
Thank you to all the kindred spirits and kind souls who take the time to leave a comment......Your support and encouragement are deeply appreciated.....I read each and every message and as time allows, do my best to reply.
